The past year has been a bit of a rollercoaster but after the recent Ranked changes and debunking of MTX making its way into the game, I’m pretty confident in saying that this is the makings of a fantastic client for online play. It’s been far easier to get my friends into Live than many other clients thanks to its generous card trading system, rewarding free Battle Passes, and of course phone-compatible app. While there’s still some bugs and lacking features (the changing game boards have been hit-and-miss in fidelity or missing the Bench, and an Arceus Leaderboard is still sorely missing), I’d say the biggest miss has been Black & White and X&Y series functionality and by extension the limited Expanded Format. It’s a disappointment considering how integral Live is in testing new formats for competitive play, and consequently how gated proper Expanded is. Even worse is Gym Leader Challenge being neutered whenever it shows up in Trainer Trials (which is otherwise an absolutely amazing step forward!).Sincerely appreciative of the team for putting their foot on the gas in terms of making Live better and better. Hopefully Expanded receives even gradual card additions going forward as I’m sure many would even just appreciate select Trainers getting released.
Enjoyable

It has been about 25 years since I played Pokémon TCG, and I am just getting back in it after watching the 2026 World Championship. I have always loved and played Pokémon, but mostly Pokémon Go and the video games. I am thoroughly enjoying the TCG, and I’m sure the clarity of the app is helping this massively. Being able to see whole cards clearly during gameplay has helped me to learn what they do and how they work. I am finding it more enjoyable on my tablet due to being able to see all the cards in hand without having to scroll, and I seem to be making fewer sequencing mistakes now. Overall though, it feels like the app is well optimised for the two different devices I have used it on. I have not spotted any instances of cards not doing what they are supposed to, so I get the overall impression the app runs the game accurately. I have only noticed a couple of minor annoyances. The main one is that if you have a rare copy of a card and try to add multiple to a deck, it quite often adds more of the rare copies than you have and then tries to charge you to exchange even if you have more than enough ordinary copies of the card available. Navigating to the common copies you do have also feels a bit counter intuitive, and involves removing the cards altogether which is not ideal. Other than that, I would appreciate a feature which enables you to search which collections cards are in directly in the Card Dex. Even with just the standard format catalogue, as a returner I am having a hard time finding some of the cards I need because I have limited knowledge of which cards are in which collections. Not having to leave the app to search for the relevant collection and then manually find the collection in the Dex would be a big upgrade.
NOT AS BAD AS EVERYONE SAYS

I was going to play this game months ago and was put of because of bad reviews complaining about glitches and it not being flawless… after getting some pokemon cards and wanting to redeem them i downloaded the game. This game is amazing i learnt how to play the card game through this game and the glitches people complain about are no more than just sly reviews from people whos standards are to high and critcizing unfairly. The games starts you off with multiple sets of free decks and has a battle pass system where you can unlock more packs and cards etc. also the game is 100% free to play , 100% skill based with an added flair of luck in the hands you are drawn, every game you play will be unique and it is very fun collecting all the different rare pokemon! I reccomend anyone to play this game and not to look at the negative reviews before you make a decision. Thanks pokemon for the good game!
Scalded. In more ways than one

I don’t even know where to start. But before even entertaining the fact, as many others have done, that almost every feature is downgraded from the previous iteration. The game is so woefully unoptimised, I’ve never ever used any app, game, utility that causes a phone to get so hot. Genuinely borderline scalds you at its peak. And as a result kiss goodbye to the battery life on your phone. People have reported depleting an entire charge in an hour. I’ve seen a little more but not much at all. That’s horrific for a mobile game.TCG (granted offline more so) and the mainline titles are the most popular elements of the worlds most popular and lucrative franchise. Yet the Pokémon Company are in real danger of alienating and destroying their own golden goose by refusing to appropriately invest in their production. Whereas Game Freak clearly didn’t have the luxury of time, the same can’t be said for this app which has been in development for a frankly embarrassing amount of time. I would love to know the size and pedigree of the team that worked on this. It feels like something that could have been made by students or interns as a project for learning app development. One that would receive a low grade at that.Truly awful in almost every single way
