America is not Britain. I, being reasonably astute, have always known this. In the past my experience of the USA has mainly come from movies, books, TV shows, music and news reports in the British media. So my idea of your country has always been a mediated, curated one. What my reading of the New York Times, and listening to the NYT audio app, has given me is access to a far wider range of American information, analysis, and creative intelligences than I have ever encountered before. And I am grateful for that. I can’t claim to understand America now, but I can claim to understand it more. But before this gets too focused on how the NYT makes me feel cleverer than I probably am I must admit to being addicted to browsing your features on properties for sale in the US. That’s bizarre because I’m never going to live in the US, and if I did I wouldn’t be able to afford most of the properties you list. But still I’m fascinated. Also love reading what I can only describe as ‘Recipes I’ll Never Cook’. No idea what that’s about either.

I’m about 3 years into my discovery of this fantastic app; great writing, great articles and endless information to keep informed and entertained. I’m not from New York or indeed the US but I am fascinated by the ability of the NYT to deliver cutting edge news without the angles, the bias, and the ulterior motives. Sadly the news in my country is all the same in that it isn’t actually reported; it’s curated, crafted and forced upon you to try and mold you into the thinking of whatever is favorable at that exact moment. Opinion piece? Until I started reading the NYT I’d never heard of such a phrase. I love them. I can’t help but have a laugh at the brutal honesty. I also like seeing the news from ‘home’ from the lens of somewhere else. The puzzles and games are a hit as well. Keep up the good work guys. Awesome.
Loving the white space
DeHelix
As a subscriber from the UK I don’t get the ads that other reviewers are complaining about. Thank goodness for that. Ads are infiltrating so much of web content these days that I am tending to avoid a lot of online publications. What I love about the online NYT is the wonderful use of white space. Also the glorious photography. However pride of place must go the writing. Yes there is are lot of articles I flip hurriedly past like politics and sport. Instead there are fascinating and caring articles on Covid-19 and its impact across America. All I read in the UK press are articles to scare people coupled with a plethora of complicated graphs. I also like the Arts and Technology sections. For me the online NYT is a bright beacon of hope in a very dark world. Thank you from across the pond.
A Higher Standard
2CV Driver
In a world of twenty-four news channels, sensationalism and political polemics it is hard to find in the UK a decent place to read good journalism. I have given up on home-grown media but now am happy to say it that The New York Times has opened my eyes to a higher standard of reporting. It seems that freedom of the press and free expression is still valued in this newspaper. Editorials, political commentary and other articles is reported with vigour, accuracy and style. Lifestyle pieces are fun and relevant and the ever-evolving quiz section is fun. If the NYT ever produces a good cryptic crossword to the same standard as UK broadsheets then my quest for the perfect newspaper will be complete.
