[UPDATED] Have been using Free Now app for a few days now and after familiarising myself with it and setting my accommodation address as ‘home’ it’s generally working ok. There’s no ability to add a tip and ride feedback opportunity seems to disappear before I have a chance to enter it. There’s no trips history in the app though you do get an email for each trip. There’s a bug that even one driver acknowledged, where your pickup location gets wrongly set, possibly to where you opened the app instead of where you’re standing waiting. I’d recommend the developer do some field testing on that. [PREVIOUSLY] I installed FreeNow as I’d read it has best coverage for Valencia. Saw a pop up saying first journey 50% off. It never happened and when I read the small print, turns out to be a discount for UK only and limited to £6 and for a limited time. A confusing experience with Valencia airport to the city. Luckily I identified the pick up point accurately, not making that graphically clear is a failing of most ride hail apps. Difficult to see where your position was and where the driver was in the map’s app. There was nowhere to enter the destination so a price quote was unavailable . I messaged the address to the driver with the built in messaging but he seemed to have a completely different address set. Luckily we noticed and he corrected that. At the end of the ride a message flashed up to give feedback on the ride and add a tip. Once I’d alighted from the car and had a moment, that option had disappeared completely, which was annoying as I’d like to have added a tip. If drivers aren’t getting tipped that would be a reason. Finally you cannot see your trips history anywhere in the app. The driver and vehicle were great, he spoke fair English too. The app however doesn’t inspire confidence, not as intuitive as Bolt’s or the slickest app, Uber’s.

Don’t use for pre-booking

A couple of days ago, I had booked a FreeNow black cab for a 5:00am pickup today to the London Eurostar international terminal, to catch an early train to Amsterdam. Literally at 5:00am today (21st September 2022), the app sent me a notification that no drivers were available! I was then scrambling around to find another (any!) cab at the last minute, across the FreeNow, Uber and Bolt platforms, to make it to the terminal in time. This was a stressful experience, as other drivers were either not available, too far away, or cancelled my booking (Bolt drivers get unlimited cancellations, FreeNow drivers get only three per week). I live in north London, zone 2, it’s only a ten-fifteen minute drive to the terminal from my home, but when no cabs are available it suddenly feels very far. This business model of assigning drivers at the last minute only, does not work for international travellers who need the security of a confirmed booking, particularly for early morning or late night trips. FreeNow (and other platforms) need to figure out a way to honour pre-bookings, to international terminals in particular — it can’t be that hard! In the meantime, me and my family are going back to using the old minicab companies, who do a much better job at this usually. Drivers show up early, and if no drivers are available for an early morning pickup, you find out a day or two in advance, not at the last minute.
Misleading advertising, driver was late and no refund

I pre-booked a taxi for the airport for 5:30am, using a 50% off promotion that I got in my inbox a couple of days ago. At 5:30am this morning there was no sign of the driver. I had to call him and he told me he was on his way. 15 min later he finally showed up. The fair I paid had a total discount of £9, corresponding to 25% off rather than 50%. So, I contacted the customer care service through the app and I received an email back saying that if I wanted to be contacted by an operator I had to reply to the email, attaching a screenshot of my relay address as they are GDPR compliant!!?? You already have all my details and I gave you consent to contact me. This is an overkill from a customer experience pov and you should really sack someone in your compliance and marketing department. The customer support replied after this unnecessary step, completed at 6 am on a Sunday morning. I also questioned their ‘waiting fee’ policy, which applied to the customer in case the taxi has to wait over 5 min, but it doesn’t work the other way around, especially if someone has pre-booked a taxi that is meant to go to the airport. After my last email, no reply. Review your GDPR policies, your misleading promotional activities and your waiting fees in order to attract more customers, retain existing ones and compete with the likes of Bolt and Uber! They would have refunded my fair by now!

Gives an estimate of a few minutes - charges you in full - then no drivers can be found! So you have to cancel yet your payment is held! Why not ensure there’s drivers available BEFORE charging?! What if that’s the only money someone had to get home, and you’re holding on to it, preventing alternative journeys home? Disgraceful process. *update* the developer response has entirely disregarded my review - appalling! What’s the point in responding if you don’t understand/care to understand the review you’re replying to? The response is in fact incorrect - you are lured into booking with an estimate time of a few minutes for a driver.. then you are charged in full.. then no driver can be found! It is at least one hour before the pre-authorised amount is returned to the payment method. So it doesn’t matter if you get the money back, the point is that you essentially borrow money for an hour while delaying the customer for an hour preventing them from paying for alternative providers! Aside for this - there is NEVER any drivers available. Do not depend on this app unless you’re willing to risk an unwitting temporary loan to the company. This is all this app is good for - you will never find a driver available. (I live in central london and I don’t stand a chance, so there’s no hope anywhere outside of this area too).*SECOND UPDATE* the responses are copy and paste generic replies. If the company profiting from this loan scam can’t be bothered to read reviews then I certainly cannot be bothered to go around in circles repeating myself by clicking on the generic link 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
