I fly with KLM every week and 98% of the times it was working great. Its user friendly, intuitive. You can see your FlyBlue status and details about it too. Get your boarding pass. Notification about gate number for your connection flight - very useful when you are in rush. Thought I'd prefer to be able to change my flights from the app as well; so far it's only possible from the websiteNow I'm preferring to use KLM for my flights. Easy to use app, great service and wonderful experience in generalNov'17 update: I'm very happy to see that I could change flights in app now. But I still have an issue when my travel document details are not coming up automatically. Sometimes I'd add details on first page, get out of app and then travel document details would come up automatically , but sometimes I'd have to get my document to fill in all details manually

Having bought tickets for a trip to South America, I downloaded the app in the hope of getting flight updates and keeping the details all together. Fat chance.I tried to log in with my email address, the one that KLM had just used to send me my tickets, but it wouldn't recognise it. Repeatedly. OK, I'll try to do it manually.The outward journey consists of two flights. I put in the flight number and date of the first, it recognised and saved it. So far so good. The second part of the journey however, instead of Amsterdam to my destination it brought up a round trip Amsterdam-Amsterdam on three flights. If I save the leg I want, it saves the whole lot. If I then delete the ones I don't want, it deletes the whole lot. I'm only allowed to save a total of six flights (not much use for regular travellers) and these extra two would take me over that limit. Never mind, plough on and see what happens. The first of my return flights is on Air France, booked on the KLM web site as part of an overall KLM journey. The app only takes KL flight numbers. I put the AF flight number in to see what happens, and it brought up a Delta flight from Atlanta to Mexico! Gave up.It seems there is no way of using the KLM app to check the status of flights (expensive flights, mind you) that I just bought from KLM. What exactly is this app for?

Since Covid KLM have unfortunately gone downhill quite considerably. I flew all the way through the Pandemic with KLM and all the services they offered were top notch as well as the app which was also brilliant. Recent updates have now rendered this totally useless unless you are doing something simple like checking the flight time. For anything else you have to now log in to the website. I’m a platinum member and most seats apart from business class are free but if you try selecting one of these (on the rare occasion it actually loads) then it tries charging. Also the only seats shown on the map are the economy ones and the app no longer shows the seat map in full. Flying status based on usage should give little perks but now they also seem to have been slowly removed too. Disappointing given I have been a loyal customer over the past few years asking for KLM when booking my travel but I think I will start my journeys elsewhere and build up flyer status with another company that honours its flyer status “perks” Just to sign off KLM will also not honour the mandatory payments for delays citing bogus excuses for the delay with then forgoes them responsibility. I was 9 hours late to my destination last year due to KLM cancelling my flight and when I eventually got to my destination I placed a claim for the delay only to be told it was out of their control and offered me €11 as a goodwill gesture. Even though I challenged this as the rules had clearly been manipulated to avoid paying. Reading of other travellers experiencing the same they also had issues with KLM stating a false reason for the delays/cancellations to avoid paying the mandatory compensation.

It’s just such hard work and a poor UX

Using the KLM app is such a frustrating user experience. I fly regularly with KLM and every time I use the app to check in, I have to add my passport details. Every. Single. Time. No matter how often I check the box to save the information to my profile. That happens on web too. The app doesn’t seem to automatically link my loyalty status with any trip I add to my profile. My flights are booked through corporate, but even when I associate my booking with my account, it doesn’t seem to integrate on the app. I have fewer issues on web, but to have to use the web is such a poor UX. Then there is the annoying performance things…go to my trips and it always takes ages for the app to update my trip. It doesn’t open the trip and update in the background, it just stops me accessing the information immediately. It makes no difference if I have a super fast connection or not and it isn’t my OS or hardware. It can only be the app connecting and accessing the database, which is just more poor UX. More problems: why when I have a return trip, and I’m on the return leg would I want to load my trip information and see the first trip? Yet, every time I access my trip, I see the first leg. No matter what. Why wouldn’t I just be able to have a more intuitive choice based on the time/date I’m accessing the information? I just can’t believe that the product or dev team did any customer work at all.Two stars, because it does generally work, just not in a way that results in a good user experience.
