Awful new design

Excellent news. I’ve been using the app for several years now for this very reason. But the current design of the app is terrible. It’s really hard to figure out where one article starts and another ends. "Where does that big picture belong to?", "Why are there suddenly unrelated articles?"

It’s very messy. I get the idea that there is an attempt to make things more compact to provide more quick info. But this requires clear lines or borders between all of the pieces on the screen.. Section titles also seem much less clearly defined- It feels like I’m scrolling aimlessly because sections and article headlines are equally prominent..

Backward Steps

I am struggling to use V6.0.
I have tried to adapt to the recent change but the layout is very hard to use. Articles list is no longer consistent format - some appear with large headlines, others small. Some appear with thumbnail images (even though I deactivated images in the settings) others turn out to be adverts. The ability to customize threads by different topics has been removed, placed by a ‘MyNews’ page that constrains one’s choices to a random, fixed list of topics, such as GazProm, Volkswagen AG, ‘Soccer’ [what’s that?], Climate Change. Gone is my ability to see news on broad topics, for example ‘Airlines’ and ‘Aviation’.
The new version appears to be forcing the news topics on you, and taking away control from the reader/end user. A loss of a previous differentiation from other media providers.

V5.0 massive retrograde step

V5.0 “a new section navigation experience” technically accurate, but the new “experience” removes all the feed customisation options of the previous version so “section navigation” is stretching the interpretation somewhat. You get news in a rigid order and topic grouping that Reuters set and can’t be changed by the user. It’s a massive retrograde step.
UK news is way down the list, and if you read an article and go back to the main feed it takes you straight back to the top, meaning you’ve got yards and yards of scrolling to get back to where you were.
Awarding 1 star for continuing to provide news to the consumer for free and another for less bias than most other outlets. The app UI itself doesn’t warrant any stars. Previously I would have rated 5 stars.
