Mountain Weather

Detailed Hiker Forecasts

Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.

Find your next hill day with mountain, climbing and camping forecasts, a weather map, inversion watches and night-sky guidance across Britain. Mountain Weather helps hillwalkers, climbers and wild campers choose where and when to go, with independent forecasts for named hills, climbing crags and mountain regions across Scotland, England and Wales. FIND A GOOD HILL DAY Search UK hills and regions, compare daily weather and views scores, and explore forecasts on the map. Check wind and gusts, rain, summit temperature, cloud base and top, clear-summit chances and changes through the day. Save reports for use with poor signal. CLIMBING AND WILD CAMPING Named-crag forecasts bring together climbing conditions, rain, rock drying, wind exposure and sunshine, with links to BMC access information. Overnight camping forecasts cover wind, rain, temperature and condensation, plus moonlight and night-sky context. AFTER DARK Explore aurora and night-sky guidance for a chosen viewpoint, including cloud, darkness and moonlight. Save an aurora watch to hear when a viewing opportunity is forecast. Aurora forecasts are uncertain and do not guarantee a sighting. WATCH THE CONDITIONS YOU WANT Follow a hill, crag or region for good-weather alerts. Watch for multi-day weather windows, dry or settled spells, manageable winds, clearer summits, climbing conditions or possible inversions. Planned-objective watches help you monitor your chosen dates. Manage your notifications in one place. PLAN AND EXPLORE Compare the weekend outlook, discover possible inversions and check typical conditions for future trips. Recent webcam cloud observations are available for supported mountains. Weather-based kit prompts help you consider what to pack. CLEAR AND PRACTICAL Adjustable text sizes, dark-mode support, saved forecasts and connectivity feedback make information easier to read and use. Midge encounter guidance appears where relevant. CROSS-CHECK BEFORE YOU GO Mountain Weather is independent and is not an official warning or avalanche-forecast authority. Follow Mountain Weather Information Service (MWIS) and Scottish Avalanche Information Service (SAIS) publication alerts, then open their reports on the providers’ websites. Check Met Office warnings, relevant avalanche information and the conditions you observe. External websites need a connection. Mountain Weather is free to use, with no display advertising or subscription. Optional trip-planning accommodation links may earn us a small commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. A forecast is part of the decision. Weather can differ sharply from valley conditions. Scores rate forecast weather, not terrain, underfoot conditions, avalanche hazard or your party’s experience. Carry suitable equipment and be ready to change your plan.
