“Without the margins, writing is just words on a page. But with them, each of us is invited to leave our mark in the endless conversation between books and the people that love them.” — from the Margins Manifesto
I have tried a fair few book tracking apps - some really well known, others less so. I stumbled across Margins, & had never heard of it. I’ve been a loyal ‘Bookmory’ user for a couple of years, and before then just tracked my read and TBR on my phone’s Notes app. I’ve tried a number of other apps (alongside Bookmory) for tracking what I’ve read, what I want to read, etc. & none have had everything I needed. This takes the cake for everything I can think of - I think primarily because I can tell that it has been created by book lovers, with book lovers in mind. The app is pretty new but is fabulous already, and the creators (I say creators because that is exactly what they are) seem to be really open to developing the app, using user feedback, & making it everything people want it to be. I can’t wait to see where this app goes & how much better it gets! I especially love that you can set ‘allowed’ apps, so when you’re reading & you’ve set the app to a reading session, you aren’t disturbed or distracted by apps you haven’t expressly allowed. The only thing I would want to change is being able to edit the ‘sub’ libraries, but I have no doubt that will be possible soon.
Love this app!

Finding the perfect book tracking app is hard and i currently use 3 (goodreads, fable and margins) I love margins so much and think it has some really innovative features such as the reading timer tracker and the search by vibes feature. I also love the aesthetics of the app and how you change the cover of the books to suit the cover you own or like the most. For me this app is great bur what would make this app 5 stars for me is 2 features 1 which I know they are currently working towards. 1. I would love to be able to track the progress of the book im reading and be able to update what page I am on, this is one of the most important features to me and would make me love this app so much more. And 2. I would love if we could get a social media aspect similar to fable where we can add friends and see their updates, make posts about our favourite books and meet new people who have the same interests as us. With these 2 features added i truly believe that margins would become the number 1 book tracking app and a lot of us would be able to use just margins for our book tracking rather than 3-4 different ones which can be time consuming. Overall i love this app and I love how much the devs listen to the consumers about features we would love to see. Its rare to find devs that care so deeply about their consumers, I cant wait to watch this app grow and become even more amazing!
An amazing app for book lovers

Honestly if I could rate this app 6 stars I would and the fact it’s only newly released makes me excited to what they’re going to add next. This app covers everything, you can count re reads on here, what format you’ve read the book such as physical, e book or audible, you can rate by half stars too which is so good!!I find the app so cozy and not over stimulating like other books apps I’ve used, and the cherry on the top is the app being able to block your screen time when you read, setting daily goals, some other cool features is you can change the cover of the book which I love so they all match the ones on my kindle as well as setting target date goals for the books on your TBR so if you do a monthly TBR like me this works so so well! Honestly I am obsessed and have already recommended to friends ( as well as deleting other book apps 🫣)
This is a BRILLIANT app but I will fully switch with one thing..

I have got back into reading this year after going through blips of obsession and not. I also mainly read on a kindle until someone loaned me a book and I now have regrown my love of hand held books! Someone clued me in on reading progress apps and I’ve trialled them all. The import from goodreads is a LIFESAVER and love that function. Compared to others this app really come out on top with the vibe read being such a great feature and is unique (I think) and a workable feature that I know you will continue to develop it. The one thing that this app does have that other apps such as goodreads or storyGraph has is a progress % or genre/vibe data. From a kindle reader I love to see how much I have left in a chapter or book it’s something that keeps me wanting to complete it almost like I’m in competition with myself. I would absolutely KILL for this feature and I will genuinely delete all other apps for this superior one. I don’t usually write reviews but this has got me wanting to tell all friends and family!! Keep doing what you’re doing developers, I’ll be first in line for the progress and page number features 🤌
Developer Response
On the latest version of the app, you can track progress via percentages, pages, Kindle locations, audiobook time listened, and audiobook time remaining! We've also just added genre data to book pages, and are working on adding it to stats. Let us know via text or at help@margins.app what else we can fix/add to make this a 5-star experience for you :)
