So I’ve only been using the app for about a week or so, but so far, I’m loving it. I had been considering Scrivener’s iPad app, among other options, but I love that Story Planner has native iCloud syncing built in. It’s also a very nice-looking app, with all of the features I’m looking for, in capturing the overall message or theme for a novel, as well, as being able to drag-and-drop scenes and is exactly what I wanted to capture all of the needs for planning a novel, and to build an outline. It’s also extremely affordable, with only a single price for the app, and no subscriptions or other nonsense to worry about. It also seems to be updated regularly. I love all of the little tooltip suggestions, which are great for not only helping to use the product, but also teach one to structure and plan a story. I have noticed what _might_ be a bug on iPadOS 18, however, in that writing very long-form content (such as the Project’s Plot Summary, which can be many lines), the editor doesn’t automatically scroll down when using an external keyboard to navigate with up and down arrows beyond the current text being displayed. It could be that this is a problem with iOS 18 (however as I type it, this review is showing the same behaviour). Other than that, it’s been a pretty flawless experience and I can’t think of any other hurdles I’ve experienced or “nice to haves” that I would want to have in the product. I do sometimes use a Windows PC and MacOS, and it would be nice to have a way to use some of these same tools from Story Planner there as well, but the majority of my writing I do on an iPad.

So useful

I can’t speak to how well this app serves seasoned writers but i can attest to its usefulness for us novices. I am in the middle of penning what I hope to be my debut novel and have found this little known gem invaluable.Pros; Can work on multiple projects simultaneously while keeping everything separate and organised.Keeps everything in one place and is easy to tag themes, locations, plots, characters, making it easy to world build and develop ideas.Helps keep things on track as you can easily access an idea or thought to work on by searching key terms. I found with a physical notebook (of which i have hundreds!) I often lose ideas or scene starters i scribbled in a moment of inspiration. Here i can always find themSupports split screen which is immensely useful when needing to research the density of air or the speed of light. While in the distance of writing a scene, so as not to lose my flow, I will fill in uncertain measurements or facts with [x] and then afterwards I will go back through and add them in later. The ability to split screen on iPad is essential to this purpose. Additionally, I like being able to Pinterest open with my inspo boards while I write. I tend to write directly in the app, but of course if you are writing in a word doc, the split screen function would be ideal for this as well.I like that I can add photos for the locations and character helping me to visualise and become immersed in my story. It also helps keep things consistent having that constant reference available.Cons;I quite literally can’t think of any.I love this app. If you are a budding writer, get it!

Long time screenwriter, tried them all. This is it.The app, is a phenomenon of highly thought after functionality, with the user in mind. If the developer isnt one, they either married or kidnapped a writer. The price is right, and thats why this will sell again and again, contrary to the competition who try to milk the user with the subscription malarkey.Thank you!

Great for Capturing Ideas
Lydia Mae.
I like having a specific place on my phone to keep quick notes and ideas I have for a story when I’m out and about rather than loose bits of paper (adhd). Years ago I was using an app that I can see in the App Store hasn’t been updated since 2016 or something so I downloaded this one instead. One thing I think story planner is missing that I found really useful in the other app is the ability to add character relationships! I suppose the tag feature could be used to show groups of characters together but I would also like to be able to have a list of the characters friends/relatives/enemies/whathaveya on their profile.

Hi Lydia! Thanks for your comment and feedback. It's really appreciated. We've added your suggestion to our users' wish list. You're right it would be great the ability to add character relationships beyond the character tags. We've added your suggestions to our users' wish list, and we'll consider implementing it in the future. Any further comments or suggestions, you can write to us at storyplanner@liternauts.com. We will be happy to get your feedback. It helps us to keep improving the app. :D
Fixed an issue with Word export when the project contained certain special characters.
