An Essential Download

If you like helping people and you’ve sometimes got free time in your day, download this app. From my experience as a volunteer, you will generally forget you have this app on your phone; notifications are infrequent and the app makes it clear that there’s never any pressure to answer if you’re busy. But if you’re not busy and a notification pops up, you can help someone. From helping someone pick the right colour top for their outfit to getting the settings right on their washing machine so they don’t ruin their laundry, a two minute call can really make a huge difference to a stranger’s day. It’s a genuinely amazing use of technology, making the experience as easy as possible for both people involved. It doesn’t bombard you with ads, the settings are all very clear, and once every couple of months you can make a real difference to someone’s life without going anywhere to do so!
Nice idea and very worthy of recommendation

As a sighted person we take so much for granted. If you have a visual impairment, then life can present many every-day challenges, like choosing the right colour shirt when going out or sorting through a few bottles of spices in the kitchen. That’s where Be My Eyes can be an instant life line for thousands of people every day.As someone with visual impairment you can ask someone at any time and as many times as you need. Due to the large helper database of very willing volunteers you will always get a helping hand and you’re very unlikely to get the same person twice. This means that there is always a willing volunteer waiting to take your call - so what are you waiting for?As a volunteer you will be notified, occasionally, when someone needs help of a sighted person. An alert pops up on your phone / tablet and you have a few seconds to answer the call. If you don’t because you’re busy, don’t worry someone else will answer usually in a few seconds and you’ll be notified that the call has already been answered. If you’re lucky enough to be able to help someone and answer a call then you will see a live stream from someone looking for assistance. You may need to provide some helpful instructions to the person so that the phone camera is showing what you need to see in order to help. Then just chat away and provide the help required. As there are so many volunteers the number of calls received in my experience is very low, maybe one call per 30-60 days on average. In short this app is an inspiration and I cannot recommend it enough.
Great way to help but be aware

I loved the idea and I was over the moon to be able to help for the first time helping someone using this app. But the second time I picked up the call, it was a pervert on the other side. The good thing is that I had already thought about this particular risk when I downloaded the app and asked my husband to help IF it happens. And it did happen and my husband did shout at the guy. I hope we contributed to the community by doing this but I am still very much shaken by this(it has just happened earlier). But I don’t want people and myself to get discouraged to help someone just because there are horrible people like this. So I would be grateful if more men could join Be My Eyes so that less perverts can mess up the great system! Good thing that I could report it straight after the call and received that the user is now blocked. I just hope I can help someone again without bumping into such awful incident again.
- Minor bug fixes and improvements
