I joined Ring many years ago when I initially purchased a doorbell. From there my collection has grown considerably. I now have cameras all over the house & also inside areas where I keep my animals, enabling me to check on their welfare at any time without having to disturb them. I have the premium legacy subscription & honestly cannot fault the customer service team. On the rare occasion I have had an issue (with 15 devices it’s inevitably going to happen over the years) they have been very helpful in fixing any issues or replacing the device & sending paid postage to return the faulty one. That is good service & peace of mind for me. Also now we have moved into profiles for regular visitors it’s making life better as I can stop it keep sending me an alert every 30 seconds when my partner is mowing the lawn & passing by 3 cameras repeatedly for an hour. Now there is also the ability to send feedback on the unusual event alerts which whilst some are quite amusing at some of the AI descriptions, it means we can now start to train it properly. Having had several CCTV set ups prior to Ring, I can honestly say I am happy with the service & products. Picking them up cheaper during a prime day always feels like a bargain as well. I’m putting family & friends onto them whenever they ask about a camera set up as the ability to be able to check on the house or speak to a visitor at the door at any time, from anywhere in the world is a god send.

I have invested a lot of time and effort into getting this to work. Three cameras all linked by business grade access points to high speed fibre internet.WiFi signal quality is excellent and everything works well on the networking front. More often than not I cannot connect to the cameras and face a blank screen. Visitors leave without me even seeing them. On the rare occasions I have got it to work quick enough and tried to speak to them, the speaker works but the microphone doesn't so I cannot hear a word they are saying.It does record all events though even if I cannot connect to the camera. Playback works well on my iPhone Plus and looks good until I try to zoom in at which point its very pixelated.The recent upgrade resulted in all my Starred events disappearing from the Starred filter section. They are still there in the main Event Listing but effectively no longer accessible since I don't have hours to scroll back each time I want to see one.So to conclude, the system has become plagued by problems recently. Maybe the app is at fault or high demand on their servers. It's not just me, a few of us at work bought them and are all experiencing exactly the same issues.Currently I would say the system falls way short of the marketing hype. However they are good for recording and playback at a later time, but for the price look elsewhere until they get their act together.As always I will revisit this review if support turn things around.

Edit: After nearly 3 weeks of having to app the app opened with an iPad constantly (to save motion settings) the update put out 5 hours ago finally resolves this. However the laggy/sluggyness in playback or motion events still hasn’t been resolved. This is not my connection or my device and remains in place even when footage has been downloaded. Never really had any issues with any of my ring devices apart from the worldwide outage that took ages to resolve itself here in the UK at least. An update was sent out on Tuesday and since then my entire ring devices are terrible. My home is connected to super fast FTTP and the RSSI on all devices are green and in 40s. The latest update now all my motion events are laggy and display “loading” on every single event. Irregardless of viewing from a 4G/5G/home WiFi connection it’s still the same. Even when you download said motion events. It’s still the same. So this is clearly a ring side issue. This has ONLY started since the recent update and it’s the same on every person I know who has updated the app. Ring support = useless. Claim it’s my “home connection” and even after storing all videos and resetting my devices individually. And doing the same for my home connection it’s still exactly the same. It’s approaching a week now that my entire ring service has been like this. For a worldwide security/home safety company. It really seems they couldn’t care less if my services aren’t working correctly.

Update - by process of elimination I discovered the cause of the lack of alerts - Smart Alerts. As soon as I disabled that, the notifications started again. It wasn’t smart, it was literally blocking all alerts! Some update around Xmas would have killed it.I have recently stopped receiving notifications from the app. I’ve checked all the settings both on the phone and the ring app and all looks correct. I’ve changed nothing. A security system with no way of informing me of movement in the house is no use to me. Also cameras randomly select different Wi-Fi routers in the house and take themselves offline. It would be useful to be able to force them to select a specific one and stick to it. For example there’s a router right next to one camera yet it hooks itself to one on another floor and either has a weak signal or looses connection Finally when downloading videos from my door camera, why is the quality so poor compared with the view on my phone? I wanted to give a neighbour some footage of a car hitting theirs. On my phone it’s clear to see, on the download it’s jumpy and totally skips the hit. I tried to download several times in case it was due to a signal issue but each time it was identical
