Lagging behind newer competition...
We’ve had a Risco system for nearly three years and it is very reliable - but the app and interface is horribly dated and functionality extremely limited. In this ‘internet of things’ age, so many modern competitors have managed to make integrated security apps look and feel superb. With iRISCO, used mostly via my iPad, I seem to have to put up with a stretched, portrait iPhone version of the app, and the whole thing could be so much more user friendly. For example, allow me to choose what appears on the menu at the left (i.e. remove ‘cameras’, etc), add a status panel to the front screen which clearly highlights any omitted or ‘not ready’ zones. Sitting with my installer / maintainer every 12 months, there are masses of useful stats they can access in the laptop based Risco programming tool (no public access!) - such as battery voltages in wireless sensors. Where is the harm in adding this type of monitoring data into the app so users who like detail can get full value from the product they’ve paid for. Guessing it is to protect the revenues and usefulness of alarm companies!
Used to be a fast working app, not anymore
Prior to an update in Aug/Sept 2018, the app was responsive and loaded our alarm status reasonably quickly on wifi or 3G/4G. Since that update, it takes a good 30secs to get the status of the alarm even when we’re in the house on wifi! Why does it take so long from just an update? If you’ve added security measures, well you need to streamline them as there’s clearly some bottlenecking along the way!
The format is good, the way it alerts you via email is good (Risco alarm not the app) when something is triggered but this is really the final piece of the puzzle that can make the whole alarm system outstanding.
A poor app / digital service
I’ve just had my system installed and when it was recommended my alarm guy made me think it was a new funky service. I didn’t ask many questions and wish I did so I could have researched the app ... awful. Only notifications seem to be by email; what use is that? I need push notifications on my smartphone to then link to my Fitbit. Is can’t see anywhere to view / edit what ‘Partial’ is. I don’t seem able to integrate with other smart home devices. No user guide for my alarm system. Where you change pin not intuitive and don’t seem able to on app. No quick links to activate/deactivate from smartphone homepage. No battery info for sensors. Really disappointed. Looks like designed by a company that doesn’t understand its customers.
