What a great app
This app will really help me because I always find myself with loads of reminders on my iPhone saying when a movie comes out, and with this app I can get rid of all of them. On Apple Watch it is so nice not having to go to reminders and scroll down and look at the tiny date and then go back and check the current date, then work out how many days. This app will just save me so much time, this app is my favourite practical app so far this year.
Like AppleTV Without the Functionality
The Kernel app has a distinct and intuitive UI, which fits really nicely into the Apple ecosystem. The inclusion of a version for Apple Watch is also a plus as it’s something often overlooked by many developers.
Beyond that, the app itself is pretty pointless. You can browse titles, of which there is quite a large range, see countdowns to new releases, and view information about cast and crew. You can also create film ‘playlists’ for some reason.
Obviously the app can’t play media through it - so the playlists are really just lists.
With no way of rating titles you have seen - or the app even knowing which titles you have seen - there is no way for the app to suggest films or series specifically for you. Additionally, you can only browse by “popular” or “coming soon”, with no option to either browse or search by genre or service. Whilst it’s pretty easy to access each streaming service via the app, there’s also no way to connect them as in AppleTV, or to hide services you don’t use. Also unlike Apple and Google, there is no way to view or compare prices for each title - only where they can be purchased. A large number of listed titles also say they are “not playing in theatres, or not available yet.” though are still listed.
Essentially, all the app offers is a long list of movies or series with some pretty basic information about them. And playlists.
Perfect for Movie Lovers
If you like movies, if you always end up missing their release dates, if you want to know what people think about the latest films and everything about the films themselves, this is the app for you. From trailer breakdowns and movie news to writers’ personal views of films, the blog is incredible and the writers are a dedicated team. Kernel Pro is definitely worth it, I always used to miss films’ release dates and now I never do! Massive praise to the creators of this app 🙏
