Description

Like you, LIFX wants smarter light. This means we care about the way you control your smart lights, as much as we do about the lights themselves. We make it easy to get started with WiFi-enabled, bright, colorful smart lights that need no hub. Yep, you can start with just one device.

LIFX App 4 can not only help give you the best start, but will turn your experience “up to 11”. Automate your wake up Schedule, or set up your movie-watching Scene (then set up voice control so you don’t even have to leave the sofa), or play with Effects next time you’re entertaining.

Features.
The LIFX app is packed full of features like:

- The Basics: on/off, dim, change color, change white temperature.
- Groups: control all lights in a group easily, including on/off and dimming with one touch from the Home Dashboard.
- Group personalisation: choose a LIFX illustration to suit or personalise Group cards with your own pictures.
- Schedules: automate your lights to fade, change color, and turn on/off, all visible in an easy calendar-style view.
- Effects: play with special effects like the music visualiser, fire, move, candle flicker, strobe, color cycle & more, all in one place.
- Scenes: set your lighting just the way you like it and save it for future.
- Themes: a library of one click colour combinations for a Group, from ‘Proud’ to ‘Soothing’.
- Paint: with your finger in the app, paint colour live onto your LIFX Z, Beam, Tile and Candle.
- Custom colour palettes: add your favourite colours to a custom colour palette.
- Discover Tab: find How To guides, learn about integration partners, or shop for LIFX
- and much more.

Example uses from our customers:

- Ambiance: schedule warmer light in the evening - to calm - and whiter light in the morning - to energise.
- “Moccupancy”: set irregular schedules to make it seem like you’re home when you’re not.
- Sleep: set your bedroom lights to deep red just before bed to produce more melatonin which helps you get better quality sleep.
- Stay put: you’ve settled into the sofa for a streaming binge but left the lights on. No need to jump up to the switch, just ask your voice assistant.
- Pet owners: if you’re unexpectedly late home from work, turn the lights on for your dog from wherever you are.
- Silent notifications: use partner apps to give you a light flash if… your car is arriving, or the forecast says it will rain, or you are mentioned on social media, and much more.

Great App, needs improvements

The app has certainly improved, and I really like the clean aesthetic. However, there are a few flaws that I have run into:

-when lots of Z strips are connected together, it is almost impossible to turn on just one colour zone, as the bar in the ‘Palette’ tab represents the whole strip. This could be fixed by having options for a horizontal scroll, or being able to put different parts of the strip on different rows
(One beneath the other).

-being able to have different brightness at different parts of the Z strip. Scenes can already do this, but it cannot be done manually.

-different colours on schedule - you can only do temperatures of white at the moment.

-I have noticed that when my bulb and Z strip are both visualising music, the bulb responds to the beats and the strip to the melody. When using the strip on its own, it responds to both. I think that being able to switch which lights respond to which part would be a great improvement.

-Widgets. Apple can now include these on the Home Screen. Yes, you can do it with shortcuts, but it redirects you through the shortcuts first.

That’s all. Great app overall :D

Go away from this app.

Since upgrade, almost a year of terrible user experience I almost stopped using the app. It’s more than unfriendly, complicated and absolutely unfriendly designed from point of turning lights on/off! This gaming interface made my home light system impossible to use any more. Turn on/off the lights, change the colours according the mood and general light control... Whatever users asked Lifx developers to give back us previous perfect and simple friendly app, they continue arguing - take time and get used to new UI. After a year- I definitely say- it’s terrible experience! It works ok on a large tablet screen, but on the phone- forget it! Also effects doesn’t work smooth, every time fails to activate and turn off. Main screen with all home light list - bad! have to scroll screen looking for my lights I want simply activate and choose the mood. Brightness control fails often. Give us back, or give us a choice to install previous app, with old fashion controls and old fashion main screen, where we don’t need to scroll screen looking for a light! Minimise icons on main screen, fit it all in one page! Finally do something correct! Don’t ruin our Lifx control experience... make it minimalistic ergonomic and easy accessible- visible all on one page! Thank you.

Developer Response ,

Hi there, we are sorry to hear you haven't had a great experience yet. We know it's quite a big change so we suggest heading to our youtube channel or support site for the best place to learn about the app. We are working on some improvements that will help the app feel less like a game, and more friendly and usable for everyone (teenagers, adults, and older). Thanks for your patience, and we hope you familiarise yourself with our app while we continue working on bringing a better experience. Best regards, LIFX.

Great but buggy scheduling

Great features, presentation and design, but currently let down by inconsistent scheduling features.

The Day and dusk scheduling (basically automatic colour temperature shifts) sometimes doesn’t apply automatically when the light is turned on after a period of being off, ie the light is set to a cold temperature in the evening when it should be warm. The scheduled turn off is similarly inconsistent, dimming to its lowest setting and then staying on indefinitely beyond its scheduled turn off time.

But there’s a lot to love too. Configurable duration Fade in and fade out are really slick, and setting multiple scheduled lighting events throughout the day is great. My personal favourite: a scheduled fade on early morning with a cool light temperature. Waking up is no longer painful and happens much more gradually and pleasantly. It’s so effective I’ve turned off my alarms!

One big suggestion for Lifx...add smooth dimming all the way to zero. At the moment the lights dim down to 2% then abruptly turn off, and similarly abruptly turn on to 2%. Dimming all the way to zero/off would be awesome - hope this can be added!
