Excellent as you would expect from Memory Map

I’ve used memory map software for years, mainly to plan my walking routes and then transferred them to a gps unit. The last unit I had was a sat map and since they have folded I was considering going back to Garmin, but with the memory map 4 all software I can just use my iPhone instead. The software allows me still to plan routes on my iMac and then save then to iCloud so I can access them on my phone. Alternatively I can download routes from websites and transfer them that way. As the mapping is full OS 1:25 they are great to follow (although I always carry a paper map & compass for backup safety). If you don’t have the relevant map you can print your route and use that. The only gripe is that with a Mac you don’t get all the features that are available to PC users, please can you sort this out as it’s a little annoying.

One of the only non-subscription mapping options

If you want OS maps or similar, Memory Map may just be the last bastion of subscription-free options. I moved when ViewRanger died and have not regretted it. The presence of desktop and phone versions is great too. My only regret is that the historical maps are no longer available as I would love to have access to those. Seeing how the landscape changes over time can be fascinating. If you want a good mapping application that supports multiple maps, this is probably your best option on iPhone.

Does all I want it to do very well

Since moving on from a dedicated GPS unit a couple of years ago I’ve tried several apps, some of them good, but I couldn’t find all the functionality I wanted in a single app until now. I use the app when walking and it has so far proved to be very reliable. Its clever design means despite its extensive functionality it doesn’t feel cluttered and is easy and fun to use.
