MeWe is excellent, the app needs a little improvement
The big issue preventing a five star review is the lack of a real landscape view; it is presently a framed portrait strip down the centre of the screen. There is no pinch-to-zoom, so most of the screen is just grey, blank space. For now, I’ll stick with MeWe in the browser, as it does support landscape. April 2021 update - still no landscape view, so back to the browser again. Doubt I’ll bother looking at the app again.
October 2022. Ditto. One other thing. MeWe says it does not support some of the third-party browsers on iPad. It does. If I simply enforce a browser header imitating Firefox, it works like a charm. Please don’t restrict browser choice.
Films you whilst you scroll
As many will know by now, iOs14 has brought in a new privacy security feature in the form of an orange or green dot in the status bar when any app or web page access your microphone (indicated by an orange dot) or camera (indicated by a green dot). For example, if an app is using actively using your camera whilst using the app, a green dot will appear in the top of your iOS device. So, knowing this i discovered the green dot appeared whilst I was simply scrolling through WeMe. This made me suspicious and indicated that the App was actively using my camera. Why!? I hadn’t actively opened any camera function, I was simply perusing the app on my initial exploring if the app itself. I’d just downloaded it out of curiosity. Be warned, despite its bold privacy protection claims there is something odd when such an app is actively using your camera when it shouldn’t need to. Perhaps MeWe hadn’t banked on Apple creating their new security feature in the form of this eye opening new dot!
Better Than Facebook
The fact that this site is not so much like Facebook is a very good thing. The only problem I’m having is using the app, I signed up on the computer and downloaded the app, I try and sign in on the app with the correct details and it refuses to let me in. Can only use the site on the computer which is a shame but other than that, thank God we finally have a site minus the BS of Facebook. My only gripe is the way the men behave who have sent me a contact request. They’re treating it like a dating site or somewhere to act out their sick fantasies so ladies please be on your guard if that’s not your thing. That’s nothing to do with app functionality but I hope in time that the website owners will clamp down on such harassment.
