Editors’ Notes

Here’s a simple truth: We don’t interact with documents on mobile the same way we do on desktop. So naturally, it makes sense that Microsoft reimagined Office for a uniquely mobile experience. With Word, PowerPoint, and Excel combined into one app, being productive feels frictionless. And we love that.

Microsoft 365 on the iPad: A Frustrating Experience

As a long-time user of Microsoft 365, transitioning my workflow onto the iPad seemed like a natural progression, given the device’s reputation for power and versatility. Unfortunately, my experience has been less than satisfactory, marked by limitations that are difficult to justify given the iPad’s superior hardware capabilities compared to many other devices, including the Microsoft Surface.

One of the most perplexing aspects of using Microsoft 365 on the iPad is the seemingly arbitrary restrictions on functionality. Despite the iPad’s robust processing power, which in many cases surpasses that of the Surface, Microsoft 365 fails to leverage this advantage, offering a pared-down version of its desktop counterpart. This limitation is not only baffling but also frustrating, as it hinders what could otherwise be a seamless and productive user experience.

Comparatively, Apple’s suite of free office apps like Pages and Numbers offers a more integrated and efficient user experience on the iPad. This stark difference makes it challenging to justify the investment in Microsoft 365 when its performance and utility on the iPad fall short of both expectations and alternatives.

The crux of the issue seems to lie in an intentional effort to limit the functionality of Microsoft 365 on Apple in favour to Microsoft’s Surface…

Just a little something…

Brilliant stuff! This is really helpful and creative, and I’ve used it to create PowerPoint Documents such as GAME OF MURDER and SPIDER-MAN: THE GAMES and they have worked out really successfully! However, on the subject of PowerPoint, today when I was using the Wood Type Template, when I clicked Double Tap To Add Title the keyboard ⌨️ wouldn’t come up! This is really frustrating because I need it to continue on SPIDER-MAN: THE GAMES! So, can you please fix this problem, because it would mean a lot to me. But if you can’t fix this problem yet, then I’ll be happy to wait. (Or help!) The reason I have rated this 4/5 is because it is (without the keyboard ⌨️ problem) an amazing app! I’d give it a 5/5 if the keyboard ⌨️ problem is fixed. Thanks for bringing this to your attention,
The MasterGamerz.
