Motability Go Charge 4+

I’ve had the Motability Go Charge card now for a few months and I’ve found it very convenient to use when I have charge on the go. There are times when I’ve forgotten to charge at home and as the Go Charge card work on most charging stations I don’t need to worry.

Using motability go charge has made charging my car when out and about 100x easier! All you need to do is find a charger that supports the motability go charge scheme which can be done via the app then follow charger instructions when you’re there. The app will process all payments for you and will not hold any money in advance as most chargers typically do. You will be able to view past charges within the app too so you know how much you’ve spent and the duration of the charge. I would recommend this to all motability users who own an electric vehicle!

We are being charged more to charge our vehicles using this app. Some times up to £0.30 on top of the fee charged by the company used. This app is for the disabled and you can only get access to it if you are on the motability scheme. I’m sure charging the disabled more to charge than a non disabled person would ultimately be direct disability discrimination. Profiting off someone purely down to them being disabled is a criminal offence. How are Motability allowing this to happen? I get it’s a service but there are free alternatives that don’t add cost to the user. The user can subscribe to get better features but ultimately they don’t need to subscribe to get the price the charging company actually charge.

I’m sending this as an email to Motability also because I don’t think it’s right to be doing this.

The specific example you provide sounds unusual and we would like to offer to investigate this for you. If you can provide us of the situation where you have found yourself paying more then the team will investigate further. Our intent is for prices to always match the pay as you go price (or be as close as we can achieve based on the pricing the charge point operators offer us).
