Ratings and Reviews
Nice app but please credit your composers
I’ve been hoping for a Nintendo music app for years and I’m so glad that it has finally happened. Hopefully the library expands to encompass tons of the games that Nintendo have access to! If the app becomes THE dedicated video game music app I think it would be incredible; video game music doesn’t really have a home on streaming services so this is a great alternative and could be a very good thing for the all video game music. However, PLEASE credit your composers! As a budding media composer myself, it is painful to see one of the biggest entertainment companies in the world not even mention who has written, arranged or produced any of the music on their dedicated music platform. Nintendo has a stunning team of composers who are extremely talented and productive with teams working on all of their first party titles, I wonder how they feel knowing that not-so-much as their name shows up on any of the games listed on this app. They deserve to be recognised for their work, they have written music that is known to millions. You cannot pretend that musicians and composers don’t exist. Music comes from people - it doesn’t spawn out of the void, they deserve to have their names alongside their soundtracks.
A great way to enjoy music from a variety of Nintendo titles.
Nintendo Music is off to a great start. A solid selection of tracks at launch with more to come. Some excellent features such as extending tracks and spoiler options. I appreciate the ability to download for offline listening, meaning I don’t have to worry about using mobile data to listen to my favourite tracks on the go. It’s a great addition to the NSO perks.
Its only flaw is that it doesn’t credit composers for the tracks. It’s sad to see them not being recognised for their work. Aside from giving them credit, including composer names could be implemented into another sorting feature. If someone enjoys one track by a particular composer, they may be interested in looking up other pieces by the same artist(s). I’d love to be able to filter music by composer, and see these people get the recognition they deserve in the app.
Worse over time
Nintendo Music started with songs from their bestselling games, such as Animal crossing, Mariokart etc. Overtime though, the music has sucked. I can’t remember the last time we got a good game soundtrack, as they seem to release Wave Rider, a game I haven’t even heard of, Splatoon 2, and I’m not saying it’s a bad game, we just have music from Splatoon 3, and basically have the same songs. Why can’t we get songs from Ring Fit Adventure, or Luigi’s mansion, any of the three, I don’t mind. Miitopia! Come on Nintendo. We don’t even have earthbound or Kid Icarus. Get better
