Description

"Learning a language is hard. Studying a foreign language requires hundreds of hours in a time-starved world. Prismatext meets you where you are, and offers an effortless method for learning a language: recreational reading!

Using an innovative method called ""diglot weave,"" Prismatext books blend foreign words and phrases into classic literature for context-based language learning.

At the start of a Prismatext book, you'll be reading in English. Very shortly thereafter, you'll be reading in English and a little bit of your target language. Prismatext will begin replacing words and phrases with their translations—not too many, of course, but enough for you to notice. If you get stuck, give the words a tap to bring up their footnote: you'll find their meaning there, as well as a way to hear those same words spoken.

The more you read, the more new words you'll discover. Prismatext introduces new words incrementally, allowing you to grow your vocabulary gradually. As you go, you may find yourself using the footnotes less and less. You'll be introduced to—and learn—hundreds of new words and phrases. By the end of the book, you may not even need the footnotes. And if you do, that's fine. Every great journey needs footnotes.

A great support to language learning.

I’m surprised how much I’ve enjoyed Prismatext’s approach. I’ve begun with the first of the Sherlock Holmes short stories collections and it’s good. But as I’m only part way through, I wonder the following:

- have these all been edited by a publisher? There are some small errors—like repetitions of words in a sentence—and these should be fairly easy to sort out…
- it also makes me wonder whether they have been checked by a local language editor. There are some occasions where a word in a colloquial phrase has been translated but the whole phrase has not and so I am unsure if it is correct. For example, while the translated word in the phrase may be a perfect, direct translation of that word from English into French, as the whole colloquial phrase is not translated, would that same word be used in a correct translation of the colloquial phrase?
- does the number of translated words and phrases in each book increase as the story progresses so that, by the end, the majority of the text is in your new chosen language?
- can you work with Audible to see which books in each genre are popular and could be used?
- and how will AI help to develop your service?

Will certainly continue to use Prismatext. Keep going, guys, and make sure you keep adding to the library!

Perfect accompaniment to language learning

I’ve had Prismatext for quite a few weeks now. I’m using it alongside another (more picture-based) language learning app and an online course. In some ways, it requires me to mentally switch-off “learning” the target language and to just read in my native language. It’s amazing how, after a while, you find yourself picking up words and to know them instinctively without realising it. The new language becomes a bit denser as you progress through the book, building on what has gone before.

I think it’s important to choose a book you’d already like to read in your own language. I’m reading books by the Brontes because I’ve always been meaning to read them but haven’t - until now. So I’m enjoying the books as I would an English language book, but also picking up words and phrases in Dutch without much effort.

Also, just have to mention the excellent customer support - very quick to respond and extremely helpful.

French and Greek Versions

My partner discovered this app. I started learning Greek, and she, French, using various sources other than human tutors. It has been a refreshing and fun addition to our range of learning experiences. The range of books is fair and improving slowly (still a young company), and the pricing is fair considering the work that probably has to go into creating the content. The app is well made.
Definitely a ‘novel’ approach to learning a language, and effective. It works by replacing pieces of text with the language one is learning, which leads me to one small criticism: I believe the replaced text in the Greek version is less dense than the the French version, which is a little concerning, as there are three density settings and mine has been on highest from the very start.
Otherwise, well worth using. 5 stars to help you out, guys.
