Description

Reeder is your all-in-one inbox for reading, watching and listening to content from various sources.

From Unread Counts to Timeline Syncing
Say goodbye to unread counts! With Reeder, your timeline position is synced across all your devices, letting you pick up right where you left off.

Shared Feeds
Turn any tag into a public, auto-updating feed that can be viewed in any browser or added to any RSS reader that supports JSON feeds, making it simple to share your curated content.

Unified Timeline
Reeder supports more than just RSS feeds. It integrates videos, podcasts and social media posts into a single, streamlined view. While it’s not meant to replace full-featured clients, Reeder offers a centralized way to keep track of everything you follow, with the option to open content in other apps (if supported) when you want to dive deeper.

Save and Organize Links
Easily save links from Safari or any other app to Reeder using its share extension, keeping everything organized and easy to find.

iCloud Sync
Reeder only syncs what’s important — your subscriptions, timeline position and tagged items (including Links, Favorites, Bookmarks and Later) — across all your devices using iCloud, making syncing faster and more efficient, with changes pushed to your other devices within seconds. Content is fetched directly from the sources, ensuring you always have the latest updates.

What’s New

Version 2024.10

NEW
- Option to show item counts for tags in the source list, disabled by default (see Settings → General)
- Entries in the item list now display the Later, Bookmark and Favorite states
- Export all items of a tag as JSON (this will create a JSON feed compatible file)
- New Diagnostics section in the settings lets you see how long any of your feeds take to refresh (see Settings → Diagnostics). The idea is to be able to track down which of your feeds might cause long refresh times.

IMPROVED
Various improvements to how Reeder handles the ordering of newly fetched items:
- Improved handling of older items for feeds that randomly add old entries or add entries with a delay
- Improved ordering of items with identical published dates for more consistent results across devices

CHANGED
- Timeline position is saved on first open of a newly added feed/folder/tag (previously on first scroll)

FIXED
- Podcast play position sometimes not syncing when the app is in background
- Some favicons not loading
- Some RSS feed discovery issues when subscribing

Hooked after a day or two

I migrated from Reeder Classic and I wasn’t 100% sure at first, because I was sooo used to the paradigm of read/unread. However, having a sort of unified scroll feed that lets me browse stuff from blogs that I actually choose to follow has meant less mindless scrolling or pull-refreshing on other platforms. Can’t wait to see how the app continues to evolve and the subscription pricing couldn’t be more affordable!

I wasn’t sure at first

Coming from what is now Classic Reeder I wasn’t sure at first but have very quickly “seen the light” and am using the new version exclusively.

I do miss Instapaper support; it would be nice to see this return even as a separate list without a synced position.

I also find myself craving full Mastodon client functionality. Toots never looked better but without the ability to interact the experience is unsatisfying.

Different, but great

If I used this app without previously using the old Reeder, it's an obvious 5 star app. But with that point of comparison, it does make it harder to go for 5. The UI is amazing, and moving from iPhone to Mac while the feed stays in the same position works great.

However, I'm missing the ability to have folders. That extra taxonomy for organizing is handy. I often come to Reeder because I want to read new content on a specific topic, and I'm missing that.

I also think some kind of indicator for what has and has not been read would be useful. If it's not a counter, then something else.

Still, it doesn't deserve some of these bad reviews, it just needs some enhancements, and not huge ones at that.
