Just as you’d expect

If you’ve used RetroArch on your PC/Smart TV/Mac, then you already know what to expect here. And I have to say it’s great to be able to (finally) be able to play classic titles on the go.

My only gripe with this version, and it’s much the same as with the Steam version, is the inability to load more cores. For example, my preference for PSX emulator is SwanStation - simply because it’s far superior to Beetle and PCSX now, but I’m unable to get it on this version. Another example is I know my Mac, iPhone and iPad would all be more than powerful enough to run a PS2 core, but again I am unable to add it into my install of RetroArch.
If this core install issue could be resolved, or even if they were just bundled as standard, then this app would get top scores from me.

(Retro) Game Changer

Can’t quite believe we have RetroArch on iOS. I’ve been using it on & off for years on various platforms (PC, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck) with varying results. I’m now trying it on a 5th generation iPad Pro with a wired PS5 controller. The iOS version just seems to work exactly as I wish the other platforms had - no set-up issues (bar one timing fix), easy to get games working and assign controller buttons, great range of slang shaders (I’m using "crt-geom-deluxe" with default values and HDR). I’ve been trying out my favourite vertical monitor coin-ops I grew-up with in the early 1980s (Scramble, The Pit, Time Pilot, Kangaroo, Bomb Jack, Traverse USA, Circus Charlie etc.), they all worked really well and looked great on the iPad Pro in portrait mode. Been so impressed I haven’t yet got around to trying my favourite computers & consoles (Atari VCS, C64, Amiga, SNES).

I was having such a blast until…

the N64 game I was playing seems to be rendered unplayable (stuttering sound and visuals) when I save core settings for it.

The core settings changes worked excellently at the time of making them and the game played perfectly with them on my iPad mini 5 but this is now 2 times that, when I return the next day, I find the game is broken and there doesn’t even seem to be a way to reset settings and the game other than deleting the app and starting again.

Any guidance or fix would be hugely appreciated. Otherwise the app is a dream come true but if this is its Achilles heel, will be a nightmare!
