a user of this app ,

Pretty good!

The GUI editor is very nice, with a very clear layout, and makes editing a lot simpler than doing it on the hardware. The sequencer editing on the app could be a bit better, it is a bit fiddly currently.

The sample manager could use a bit of improvement, tags cannot be edited, user samples cannot be previewed, or saved and a few other niggles, such as you can’t move a sample you recorded into say a drum slot, and it isn’t possible to save a sound. I’d also like to see a wave editor with things like trim and resave.

The visualiser seems to be fairly straightforward but I think some of the assets/objects could be better, funny animals are ok for a gimmick but not that useful once the initial novelty wears off. I’d like to see some more things like scrollers, more textures and styles, freehand drawn shapes, more modifiers such as logical operators (example shape only appears when kick AND snare play, and so on) external midi triggers would be great too.

I think for an early version though the whole app seems very well thought out, I think it has the potential to be really great, and could be popular with VJs, videographers and other media artists than just musicians. Well done to the dev team.

Still a bit clunky

I’m in the middle of writing a more detailed report to submit over on ideascale but wanted to post here with my thoughts and wishes.

Higher Contrast
The app is mostly shades of grey, and while legible, I find myself squinting or relying on the magnifier. Not ideal for jamming! Would love to see an altered theme that’s more OLED friendly with a black background, and white text, maybe with orange text to indicate highlighted items to keep in theme with the black unit?

Larger Fonts
The text seems on the small side with a lot of empty space. I also feel like the all caps oblique SEQTRAK font is a bit over utilised and hurts readability.

Haptic Feedback / Audio Feedback
Definitely a nice to have but worthwhile mentioning. It would be good to have either bump vibration haptics and quiet sounds for the UI. Due to how the app communicates with the SEQTRAK there is some delay between pressing something and having it change, mainly when switching pages. I find I hesitate a lot because it’s not immediate and I worry I mis-pressed an item. Some subtle clicks and confirmation on/off sounds would help with usability, and especially a ‘Connected’ chime. Do keep them subtle if you do, and make sure there’s a toggle on the main page to instantly turn them off, that’s important too!

Screen Reader
Knowing that this was built in Unity I have absolutely no idea how viable this is. However for vision impaired users like myself and others, the device itself is incredibly tactile, and yet the app is really cumbersome and limiting because of its visual nature. Screen Reader support would be phenomenally helpful and a game changer for many.

I have many other little niggles but those I will save for my deeper dive on ideascale as I feel like a lot of them fall outside the scope of the App Store.

Great device, please please keep updating it, it’s got so much incredible potential and I hope my comments inspire further improvements!
