Problems with iPad Pro
Can’t believe such a major game has finally been brought to the iPad, and as far as I can see, it should work perfectly on the iPad Air 2. However, I find it quite ridiculous that the game hasn’t been optimised for the larger screens of the iPad Pro models (10.5” and 12.5”) from the outset of release, I can’t really get my head around this, it’s almost as if the developers forgot that they needed to modify the visuals for the larger, most recent and powerful iPads. The blurry visuals can be quite uncomfortable to look at for a while, and the game interface is oversized, but I really hope that an update is released to solve this problem as soon as possible. Following on from this, in my opinion, the game, despite being a full 'computer grade' game, the £28 price tag is rather heavy for an iPad app and I’m sure is the main factor that will put people off buying it. I’m sure £15 or so would suffice and would attract more people to buy it. Personally, I do plan to pay the £28 because I can’t see the developers reducing the price, and it is amazing that such a great game has been brought to the iPad. To conclude, please please please developers optimise the visuals ASAP!! You wonder why you’re getting some bad initial reviews...
Great game but some issues
Just like many others I totally didn’t expect to see this game make its way to the iPad but it is most definitely a welcome surprise. The gameplay has been translated excellently to the iPad and just as you would expect from a Civilization game it has the same addicting qualities that keep you thinking “just one more turn” straight into the late hours of the night.
The issues of the game mainly relate to the performance, unlike many of the people reviewing the game I realise that expecting the visuals to be at the same standard of the PC version is wishful thinking. That being said I have experienced a few crashes into the later stages of the game as well as the iPad (9.7 inch model) being unable to keep the charge at 100% when attached to the mains due to the power consumption being greater than the power supplied. With regards to pricing I believe that for a AAA title such as this, a higher price tag is totally justified however at the same time I feel that £60 is too steep and that the current sale price is more in line with what I’d expect a AAA title to cost on this platform.
All in all I’m very impressed with the quality of the port to the iPad, now if you could also port over Civilization 5 with all its DLC, I (and many others) would buy it in a heartbeat.
High price justifies a lower score
I have been playing civilisation for about ten years now and count myself as a loyal fan. While the fact the game is able to run very well on my 2018 iPad is impressive the cost is far too high. I bought the full version of the game on my laptop which included all the extra civilisations and scenarios for £30 on PC and am confused as to how the £50 iOS version does not come with all the extra civilisations included. While I did buy the game on iOS at the offer price of £30 I feel paying the full £50 should be rewarded with the addition of all civilisations and scenarios without having to pay £4.99 EACH! Also, the price of the game would be made far better value if future updates included the expansion packs are provided for free or at a very discounted price as it is such expansion packs which complete each rendition of civilisation. Otherwise the game runs very well, it is just a shame owners of PC versions of the game are forced to buy the game again and at a far more expensive cost in order to play it on the go. Here’s to hopping that future expansions, if they do become available, are more reasonably priced.
