Needs better instruction for problems! But amazing app overall.

After disconnecting my phone and camera, they would not pair again at all. BUT, I have figured out how to sort it. If you are having a similar problem to the one below and can’t figure out how to fix it - I’ll tell you what I did to fix mine. I received a D3500 for my 16th birthday just yesterday and connected the camera to this app almost straight away. It connected perfectly and there were no issues with it. Later that day, we connected my brother’s phone to my camera and it suddenly stopped working on my phone. So, we disconnected it from my brother’s phone and it still wasn’t working so we disconnected it from mine to see if reconnecting the phone and camera would work. We tried over and over again to connect but it kept coming up with ‘pairing unsuccessful’ before it even gave me the chance to pair it! I deleted the app and redownloaded it several times; still didn’t work. I turned my phone completely off and back on; still didn’t work. I even created a new apple ID and it still didn’t work. We took out the camera’s battery and everything; when I say we tried everything, I mean we tried everything. I suggest that the app creators make it crystal clear in the ‘help’ for problems when pairing is unsuccessful that you need to ensure the devices are disconnected on every setting possible (especially on iphones!) I had to go onto my bluetooth settings, click my camera and ‘forget this device’ before it finally worked. You may also need to check this on the camera too. Other than that, brilliant app and would 100% recommend!

I’ve never written a review before but as someone who is now taking pictures professionally, I feel like it’s only right to steer people in the right direction. This app works fine ONCE YOU GET IT TO WORK. It’s a pain in the back side to connect to the camera and just leaves you in the dark for the majority of the attempt, fiddling around clicking buttons and connecting to different things. I like my camera, and I think the D5600 is a great one but I wish the app was easier to use. I’ve been logged out of my camera connection and once I’ve logged back on, everything is gone. Admittedly, the photos are stored in my phone but if you relied on your camera saving these photos, it’s game over. I’ll give credit where it’s due and like I said, once everything is up and running smoothly, the app is a dream. It’s just such a shame I’ve had problems a few times now with this app and I can’t think of anything more frustrating than something that should would easily but simply doesn’t. Nikon are a great brand with some great products but this app needs some overhauls. Once you’re in the dark, it’s like you’re grabbing for a rope that’s not there and once you find it, that rope doesn’t necessarily help you out of where you are. I’d urge anyone to back there stuff up and this app is a prime example because once you’re gone, so is your stuff unless you work it out properly. I’m guilty of being impatient but what I’m experiencing is just frustrating and tedious.
Nikon need to catch on.

Since updating to version 2.0.1 I am very impressed with this app. I can now change shutter speed, iso level, aperture etc in the remote photography menu. The connection seems more stable than before, viewing images is much faster (but you need to connect to WiFi for this). You can also change the location data accuracy, put on auto link and turn on or off a battery saving mode. One small feature which I love is that I don’t have to go into WiFi settings on my phone to connect to my camera anymore (the app produces a pop-up which asks if you want to join the WiFi without needing to leave the app). Overall I’m very pleased with the update, and look forward to further improvements. Well done Nikon!

Continuous problems with connection

Even after the update - it still doesn’t work. In fact now it won’t pair at all, no matter how many different ways I try/how many times it’s switched on and off. If canon can manage it with no issues whatsoever, why can’t nikon?! Frustrating and just pathetic that they can’t even fix an issue that’s been going on for TWO YEARS. Are Nikon just hoping we’ll all get card readers and forget about uploading and editing on our phones? Especially not good for when we can travel again. I’ve never had problems like it with my canon app, the connection/pairing between the W300 and my iPhone seems to need to be continuously renewed, or you just have to ask it to join the WiFi 6/7/8 times before it decides to work. It also has serious trouble finding photos if you use a memory card on two different cameras, yet none of the other cameras have trouble finding the nikon ones in their apps.. honestly the worst photo app I’ve ever used, two stars only because when it does work it’s very easy to navigate and the remote filming is handy for some underwater shots.
