Useful, but with some limitations

The hardware is small, which is helpful when carrying kit about. The software has some oddities. Viewing camera files: directories are shown for camera cards, but the display only seems to show one, regardless of selection. Individual downloads of RAW are slow, batch downloads don’t offer a choice of formats. Selecting the Wi-fi network has to be done, and soon becomes a habit, so is ok. However, there are occasional random disconnections requiring the Wi-fi sender (WMU-1a in my case) to need to be restarted, or the network to be reset. The biggest flaw for me is that viewed resolution on iOS devices is lower than actual, this means that when viewing photos you don’t get a true view of image quality. However, when downloaded the image is at full quality, e.g. when viewed in Photos. So, curate’s egg: some good bits, some not to good; but a useful addition to the kit overall.

Good, just not great

As a method of transferring photos from the camera to an iPad or phone this app works well. Transfer is quite quick as the camera becomes the WiFi network. If you have a lot of photos to transfer the selection process is awkward. RAW files can be used for social media without conversion or processing. Using the app to take photos is clunky and something of a gimmick, you cannot change the settings on your camera and there is a time lag. Also, the screen freezes multiple times. Also, you need to keep your iPad or phone pretty close to the camera otherwise it drops the connection. I tried to take photos of the birds using the feeder, I set my camera up on a tripod, connected to the app, took a test photo then went to sit in my conservatory just a few feet away, and it dropped the connection. I don’t think I will use it again for that purpose, which is a shame as it has great potential.

Simple and convenient. But slow

I love how I don’t have to faff about transferring memory cards, and I don’t have to be on my laptop to transfer so can do it out and about. It is a little slow though, taking about 2 seconds for each photo.
The only other downside is that there is no ‘select all’ option. So when I’ve had a day out and taken 2 or 3 hundred photos it is rather tedious having to click on every single photo individually so I can download them. This DEFINITELY needs to change.
