Very promising
Some really good features, a few bugs but very promising and updated frequently. I narrowed my choice for a new note taking app down to Spaces and Bear. Bear is probably about a year ahead of Spaces in it's development but Spaces is being improved at a very rapid pace. In the end it came down to the fact that Spaces has a lifetime purchase option and I didn't want to pay a subscription as high as Bear's for a note taking app when the Apple Notes app is almost good enough and free.
Pretty but a bit buggy
App looks the part and full of useful features. In theory anyway. Currently running into a couple of bugs:
- Unable to delete notes. Delete a note and after a few seconds it will reappear. Had this on both the iPad and iPhone versions. UPDATE: possible a first run issue (or an update)? After a couple of days this resolved itself.
- On the iPad it is not possible to scroll notes in two column view. The note must be full screen for scrolling to work.
- Linking in notes appears not to work. If I link to another heading in a note tapping the link does … nothing.
Those were the main issues I ran into in the brief time I used the app (couldn’t find out how to add attachments but that’s probably on me). It a shame as the app looks great (very Things 3) and the life time offer would have been tempting.
Perhaps worth checking out in the future, when the bugs have been squashed and it’s been refined a bit.
Elegant and Efficient
Spaces is essentially a Markdown editor comprising of multiple themes, a library system and formatting options. The app is a pleasure to write with both on Mac and IOS, both of which keep in sync thanks to iCloud. Not dissimilar to Ulysses, but with a simpler, more practical layout, I can't recommend this highly enough. I would also commend the support -- two issues both sorted out immediately.
An excellent choice for any writer.
