The best online bank ever. Seriously.

OK, that sounded a bit gushy, but I currently have over 10 different online accounts - including with most of the high street banks. None are better than Starling, and many are absolutely atrocious. Starling works - very well. You WILL be impressed. It's as instant as you can get, has every feature you need, and none that you don't. I also love getting the real international exchange rate when using it abroad without any nasty loading or fees. If you can live without meaningful credit interest on your current account, get a Starling account. You'll be glad you did. There are still improvements to be made: there needs to be the facility to add your own spending categories, as the standard ones are too limited and leave out some important ones like ‘healthcare’. At the moment that would come under ‘lifestyle’ which is way too broad to be useful. It would also be great to be able to see previous month’s spending totals as well as view all transactions in a particular category without having to sift through all your transactions. It would also be useful to be able to set up payments from the savings spaces - so you can have one for bills, one for fun, etc. The ability to have a card linked to one is great, but it is too limited in functionality so I still need a separate non-Starling bank account to budget for and limit leisure spending due to the limited ways you can make payments from them. All in all, a brilliant bank account though.

Never going back

Decided to leave Halifax after being there for over 10 years. All of the high street branches offer the same thing: no interest rates on current accounts, poor app designs and features, as well as long queues in branches (due to staff cuts) and long waits on the phone. This bank is fantastic. The app is so useable and user friendly and I learnt how to control my bank account completely very quickly. I’ve only ever had to use customer service once to query something and they were extremely helpful. MasterCard is accepted everywhere so I use it for all my spending and the card itself is a gorgeous design. Please keep the teal portrait design!!! Paying my friends and family is much simpler using this and seeing what I’m spending my money on each month is unbelievably easy. Not to mention having all my card details in the app so I can just use the app to enter payment details on websites. If I ever want to put cash in I can just use a local post office for free to get immediate deposits. The only thing that would make this bank perfect is a feature to scan and deposit cheques. Starling keep doing what your doing! This is now my only current account and I can’t see myself leaving any time soon!

Brilliant everyday mobile personal banking

I’ve been a Starling customer for 3 years. I’m in my 50’s and I’ve completely embraced the whole fintech banking scene. Starling Bank have quite honestly been a breath of fresh air in my everyday personal banking. During the long Covid lockdown, I shopped frequently for my elderly neighbours who would then give me a cheque to pay for their shopping. Cashing the cheques with Starling was super easy with their scan in App cheque facility and cheque clearing was super quick, absolutely brilliant! My Wife is also a Starling Bank personal account holder and it’s super easy for us to transfer payments between each other.

The App is updated frequently though I do wish Starling would add dark mode, something I’m sure would be relatively easy to implement. I’d also love to see my credit score in App. The navigation bar is a bit ‘in your face’ at the foot of the screen and could do with a revamp or rethink.

All in all, I can find little to fault with Starling Bank. For the most part, a brilliant App which is absolutely a cut above most of the High Street banking Apps but moreover, a great customer experience. Well done Starling, keep up the good work and keep improving the App.
