The best sudoku app

Really good puzzles, with lots of variation. There’s plenty of normal sudoku, graded accurately by difficulty, and also puzzles with interesting different rules. The weekly puzzles involve a good mix of these variants, including ones that are normally not available without upgrading the app, it gives you a real opportunity to see what the upgrade offers. You can tell the developers have a real love for sudoku and they have a lot of educational articles about how different strategies work, and this is incorporated in the hints if you find yourself using them, which explain how to recognise which strategy you can use. As someone who isn’t in a position to spend money on apps at the moment, I appreciate that the ads are not very intrusive. You can personalise a lot about the puzzle (remove visible timer, choose how cells are highlighted, etc). I intend to upgrade when I can, not because I need to access more content as there is plenty available for free, but because this is clearly a passion project for its developers who continue to improve the app in response to user feedback and develop more puzzles and variants. This is a gem of an app

Best app for varied and new sudokus

I absolutely love this app, it seems to be the only one I’ve found that has a multitude of types of sudokus all in one place and with all difficulty levels accounted for. The ui is very good and my favourite tool is the ability to make your own boxes in killer sudoku puzzles. Furthermore, the hint system is easy and satisfying to use, however sometimes the hints are not fully explained. If one thing could be improved the ability to select multiple cells that are not adjacent would be helpful.

As for Hints, press the (i) button above the hint to get a detailed explanation of the strategy of the hint, and yes sometime, the hint requires some exploration to fully understand it. You can select cells that are not adjacent by first 'Pressing Long' on the fist cell of any additional area you would like to select.

Challenging, fun, but too many variants

Having not done Sudokus for many years, I can recommend this as a good and fun challenge for new and more experienced players.

Being somewhat experienced, I started at Medium level, but am finding the puzzles more challenging than expected!

Overall, I’m enjoying it. But there are too many variants to get to grips with, although you can access the explanations easily. Then another variant is introduced when you’ve only just started to get to grips with the last one!

Having said that, I’ve not yet come across my favourite variant: the Jigsaw sudoku. The overall 9x9 grid is the same, but in Jigsaw sudoku the usual 9x9 square blocks are irregular shapes in which to fit the numbers 1-9, still within the overall standard grid. So it’s a fairly easy fun variant.

Being a ‘more mature’ player, I do appreciate the easy zoom feature, which works without having to go into your phone’s settings, especially as I have a smaller phone and screen.

Please keep adding new puzzles: hope I can eventually progress to the harder levels!

Jigsaw is in the app. You can use the filter in the upper right side of the game screen to filter by your favorite variants.
