Worcester Wave – smart control for heating and hot water

The Wave is a smart, internet-connected programmable control for central heating
and hot water which can be operated using this app.

After installation this app can also be used in demonstration mode, without access to the internet, a Wave controller or a Worcester Greenstar boiler, to showcase the extensive features and simplicity of use.

Simple to use

The Wave’s intuitive and modern design ensures it is very simple to operate using either its in-built touchscreen or the app.

• Supplied with a pre-set programme that can then be easily modified to suit your requirements.

• The Wave features a ‘holiday programme’, requiring just a start and finish date.

• An installation and operating manual is provided with each control and there are links to number of helpful videos within this app that provide further details on specific functions.

Simply smarter

The Wave’s innovative programming enables it to have an ‘intelligent conversation’ with the boiler enabling energy efficiency features including:

• Load and weather compensation which allows the boiler to adapt its operation, to achieve optimum efficiency, whist still maintaining the level of heating comfort required. This can help reduce fuel bills.

• Unlike most other smart heating controls, the Wave can also programme the hot water settings, providing additional energy savings and comfort.

• Charts of heating and hot water usage so the homeowner can easily identify where potential savings could be made.

Want a Worcester Wave connected to control your heating?

To take smarter control of your heating, first check if your Worcester, Bosch Group Greenstar boiler is compatible with the Wave by visiting worcester-bosch.co.uk/wave

To purchase a Wave contact a heating engineer, and a list of Worcester accredited heating engineers can be found at worcester-bosch.co.uk/findaninstaller or using the Worcester, Bosch Group app.

The heating engineer can install the Wave. It only requires a 2-core wire connection between the control and the boiler; all other connections are via the Wi-Fi network.

Not bad could be so very much more...

Overall it works and let’s you manage the heating - I’ve had some issue with WiFi connection - it does not seem to like having more than one access point available (I’ve switch off some 2.4ghz WiFi) and it seems happier (although it really should/could try and reconnect if it loses the connect, some more thought here). I have also lost access to the historic data since the last update, and really would add to the whole system if you could download the data (.csv etc..) another point the home present system is far too basic it really need to be integrated into the timed temperature setting (you know, if I’m home and it is daytime the 19, if it 8 at night then let’s have 20 etc) instead you can just have day night and away - too basic really... the boiler is very good and the app is not in the same class.

Fairly good app, but should be much better

Worcester Bosch group - if you read this, please be more aware that customer retention is just as important as getting new people in with shiny new things. I’ve had this device for two years and never seen a change in the app. I have found that using it has been fairly good, but with the lack of refinement of the app, I can see that lots of frustrating points and oftentimes clunky UI don’t get any attention. I would NOT recommend the Wave over other smart devices such as Nest purely on this point.

It’s not as smart as it could be, but almost all of the ways it could improve would be remedied with simple app updates.

Even things as simple as being able to rename your [limited-to-two] different timed programmes so when you come out of winter you know programme 2 was the one you made for reduced-but-not-off use during the spring.

Being able to make more custom programmes than just the two would be good

Being able to put the heating on manual mode but timed (ie heating on for just an hour)

Convenient remote control of our boiler

We had the Wave installed with a new Worcester Bosch boiler three years ago when it was originally released. We've found it reasonably easy to use and the ability to remote control the central heating is very useful. Some teething problems but now have no issues connecting via a Virgin Media superhub or when out the house. Like the ability to programme in hot water pre heating for certain times of day. Load compensation theoretically improves boiler efficiency though not been able to assess this. Warranty is extended to the same as the boiler if installed at the same time.
