Yoga perfection 🙏🏻
My difficulty over the years has been finding any sort of exercise that appeals to me, I can do but have room to progress and develop, and keeps me interested. I've toyed with yoga on and off over those years, as I have zero inclination to go to classes, and finding an app that fit the bill was a chore. I've tried many different ones, and the experience always started well, but there was always something that eventually made me lose interest: being too difficult; only having a set number of routines that repeated over and over; the level of instruction, difficulty, and progression.
I found this app by chance a couple of months ago, and I am in love. The free version which I'm using gives plenty of variety; I might decide to upgrade one day, but I'm happy as I am right now, and I think that's ideal for beginners - being able to practice and learn without having to commit to paying. I love the flexibility of options for a session, and, as others have said, even when you chose the same parameters over and over, it still provides a varied routine. For example, I usually go for a 10 min Restorative routine in the evenings, and every time, there's at least one pose I've not done before.
I'm still in the Beginner level and can really feel the changes in my body - maybe this is the app to finally help me progress further! Even if I stay a beginner for the rest of my life though, I know this app will keep me interested and practising yoga 🙏🏻
I’ve always wanted to be fitter, but have little inclination to work myself to exhaustion. And finding the time away from home is difficult, and buying decent home equipment expensive and requires loads of storage.
I was recommended to do yoga by a physiotherapist who was trying to address years (and years) of damage I had done to my body because of bad posture. I thought it was a stupid idea, I had this image of yoga just being about spiritualism and meditation. But I gave it a shot and I am a convert!
I fee more mindful, my fitness has increased and at the end of a session I have this weird mix of having had a meaningful workout but also heightened relaxation. And yes, my years of back pain have all but vanished only after a month of yoga!!
This app is perfect. It guides you in gently with the tutorial programmes and then lets you increase intensity, difficulty and session time at your own pace. You can choose how much detail is given for each pose, so it’s perfect for beginners and experts alike.
My only criticism is that you can’t adjust music volume separate to the voice so sometimes I can’t hear the instructions very well because the music is too loud. And I’m not looking at the screen half the time because the poses don’t allow it!!
Worth the subscription
I think that it is important to note that this app is no longer free for life, after 2 sessions it asks you to subscribe. However I had enjoyed my 2 sessions so much that I have now been paying for this app for 7 months. I find the monthly rate cheap especially when I consider the alternative is paying for an expensive gym membership that would probably go to waste. The monthly cost is less than £5 for me and when I consider that 1 class in my old gym was that price I find this reasonable. I have been using the app consistently for 6 months and initially bounced between the Full Practice and Restorative mode for a while, I found I was able to move up from Beginner to Intermediate 2 fairly quickly (this may be in part due to the fact that I spent my formative years as a dancer and despite a 5 year gap I found I had lingering flexibility). The complaints about only getting two sessions are valid however I implore those of you complaining to consider what this costs compared to a gym membership. I now combine this app and Couch to 5K to give myself a full body workout both flexibility wise and cardio. All for the cost of one coffee/ exercise class a month.
