Videos won’t load
+TheBigCheez+
I love Reddit a lot, which is why it is so frustrating that loading videos just doesn't seem to work. I have fast WiFi that can load videos on other apps at 1080p quality with no buffering, yet videos on reddit just won’t load no matter what. It normally takes about two or three minutes before I can get the video to load yet the video I am trying to load now is taking ten minutes. I went on to another app to check if the WiFi dropped suddenly and yet again it was just Reddit. I honestly have no clue what you are able to do to fix it because I don’t even know if there is a way, but if you could that would be great
Big step down from Apollo
S1NK
I was an Apollo user for main years, which has been shut off due to decisions made by Reddit. I’ve been using the official Reddit app for a week now and it’s a horrible user experience in comparison. Slow to load conversations and to collapse threads. Slow to switch between subreddits. Navigating between subs is a chore. Custom feeds are buried in a menu. r/all is basically hidden at the bottom of the subs menu. Swiping left from a sub brings you back to the Home Screen, not where you last were and you can’t swipe right to go back to sub/post you were just in. The whole interface is cluttered especially Videos/gifs which are overlaid with buttons for useless features. That’s before you get to the advertising which is pervasive and intrusive. I understand the need for adverts for revenue but I’ve seen the same ad for Candy Crush probably 100 times this week and it takes up most of the screen. I wonder how much bandwidth that one ad has used. The other ads seem to mostly be for crypto services which I have no interest in. Premium is way too expensive if it was closer to €2 a month for an ad free version I would consider it, but paying for such a poor UI would feel wrong to me even at that price.
I’ve learnt a lot, and been pretty entertained.

Reddit gets a lot of flack for a reason: it’s got many problems. The site is filled with people who are obsessed with the site and say that it’s better than other social media sites, especially Instagram. Along with that are a couple of other grievances like celebrity worship and a know-it all attitude about global politics that makes Twitter seem like the UN. But those problems are overshadowed by the creativity and information galore on the platform. I’ve become a better, less ignorant and more considerate person thanks to the site. I’ve seen some truly amazing works of art and writing, and there’s a bunch of small, quirky subreddits that’ll hold your interest for a small while (For example, there’s a subreddit dedicated to photos of bread stapled to trees.). The best thing I’ve gotten from Reddit, however, is when I posted about feeling depressed and hopeless online and was greeted with a mountain of support from anonymous people. That meant a lot to me. Overall, I’d recommend Reddit in spite of a few problems I have with the site.
Thanks for updating the Reddit app! We've updated our iOS app with bug fixes and changes to improve your overall experience.
