I’ve used MindNode for years and it went from good to great to essential. Unfortunately with MindNode Next they’ve gone backwards to “meh”. In my opinion, the main problem is the rubbish built-in file management. It doesn’t use files or folders as we know them in iCloud Drive or Files. You can’t duplicate files, or “Save As” to a different name, which means you can’t use templates. For years my MindNode workflow was built around creating template mind maps which I reuse again and again for different projects, and saving them into relevant folders in my file system. At the time I’m writing this review (February 2025) MindNode Next uses ‘baked-in’ files, like Apple’s “FreeForm” app. You cannot save MindNode next files where you want in your file system, and you can’t duplicate or ‘Save As’. This breaks my workflow, and means the app is unusable. I know they have ‘Document Management’ as an in-progress item in their development map, so hopefully they’ll add basic file management, like Duplicate or Save As. Until then, I recommend using MindNode Classic, which is a superb piece of software.
Hi Alan, thanks for your feedback! I get your points and see why this is frustrating. Yes, there is a difference between how documents are stored on MindNode Next and MindNode Classic. As you correctly mentioned MindNode Classic is a document-based app, and  MindNode Next is a shoe-boxed app. This means that instead of storing documents on the file system, the app itself is now managing them. Documents in MindNode Next are stored in CloudKit and not in iCloud Drive or a third-party sharing provider. One great benefit of using a synced database in MindNode Next over files stored in iCloud Drive in MindNode Classic is that the system doesn't offload your documents and they are always there. Even when offline on an airplane. I also get why you would like to have Folders back. We are currently working on implementing them to MindNode Next as soon as possible. Duplicating is already implemented into MindNode Next. However, we know that MindNode Next and MindNode Classic don't (yet) have feature parity and MindNode Next might not be a full replacement for our users at the moment. That's why you can continue using MindNode Classic. By providing this feedback you are helping us, a lot, to understand better what we need to add to MindNode Next in the coming months and where we need to improve our communication. Thank you!
