Description

Foodprint connects users to eateries with surplus and imperfect food available for purchase at a discount. Each day the eateries who have partnered with Foodprint upload surplus food items that will otherwise be thrown out. The food is still completely fine to eat and of the same quality as if you’d purchased directly from the store itself. In just a few clicks, you can search for and purchase food items while exploring local eateries and rescuing food from being sent to landfill.

In Foodprint you can:
- Discover food available using the interactive map or list view
- Order and pay for your food
- Follow your favourite eateries to receive notifications when they have food available
- Filter your search based on your location and dietary requirements
- Search specific food items to satisfy your cravings
- Leave a review of your experience for the eatery to see
- See all previous orders
- Invite your friends to join you in rescuing food
- Track how much money you saved
- Track how much carbon you’ve saved
- Securely store your credit card for easy purchasing

Why is food waste an issue?
Humans overproduce food so much, that we end up throwing ⅓ of it away. This is a huge waste of not only the food but also the resources that went into creating that food such as the land, water, labour and money. What’s worse, is that when food is sent to landfill it decomposes and emits the greenhouse gas methane, which is a huge contributor to climate change.

In New Zealand, cafes, restaurants and supermarkets produce 50,000 tonnes of food waste annually. Over 60% of this waste is preventable as the food is still fit for human consumption. Foodprint provides a practical easy-to-use solution that is appealing to users and eateries, allowing both to reduce their foodprint.

Together, the Foodprint community rescues food, saves money and helps the environment.

Great concept, app inconsistent

I’ve used the app quite a bit over the last 3-4 weeks and there are two main issues I’m having with it.
First, is that notifications from local or favourite shops just stop working. I’ve turned notifications for them off and on, turned all app notifications off/on again and logged out of the app. But the only thing that made them start working again was uninstalling and re-installing the app. They stopped working again about a week later.
The second issue is that occasionally I’ll add stuff to the cart, and go to pay but my saved card info has disappeared. I have to go back to the main screen/list of items and try to pay again, at which point the saved info usually appears.

Great idea and works well most of the time, but needs refinement

Great idea! But impossible to use

The app works well if I click on an eatery via notification. However, if I open it and try to scroll it keeps refreshing and I can’t see what’s available. It never used to do this :(

Love the concept and it’s great to see more and more eateries using it.

Facebook sign-up is now working

EDIT: I just tried it again this morning and now I can login via FB. Seems like the problem is with FB and not your app. Sorry for giving a 1 star rating 😂

However, may I suggest that if FB (or your APIs) is acting up for some reason, set a timeout so the users will know that something went wrong instead of letting them wait for nothing.

————————————————————

Just downloaded your app to give it a try, but I can’t connect using Facebook. It just goes on and on and it blocks any UI interaction so I have to quit the app and try again. Unfortunately, same thing happened. I mainly use Facebook to sign up cause it’s convenient so please take a look into it. I’m using iPhone XS with iOS 12.3.1. I have the FB app installed and I’m logged in. Hope that helps.

Developer Response ,

Hi Afortuna!
Thanks for your review and the update! Yes on our first day we had a few issues with the Facebook log in as we maxed out the API. The team worked incredibly hard to get this sorted out and did so within the day. Thanks for figuring out the issue on your own too!
