Was not given the option not to upgrade. I dont like to upgrade for some months.
I was wrong, It did give me the option to upgrade but I dont believe it will update because of the age of my mac. They are making many good machines redundant sadly so we have to purchase a new one to work on the new system they purposefully develop.
Not a bad first cut
Ignoring whether you want to have your privacy violated or not, this app is pretty decent :) It is quick/responsive, has a consistent UI with the web Messenger app, and allows for some pretty good multiparty chat.
It's let down by poor video calling - lots of audio/video sync issues and generally poor resolution/quality. This is not the Skype replacement you've been hoping for (although it's a better performer for me than something like Hangouts).
Could also use a wider selection of supported file types. Trying to use this to exchange voiceover samples with my coach is impossible as they don't allow things like MP3.
These mean it can't really be the total replacement for your video and chat needs. It's got a good user base (convenience) but at the moment I prefer alternatives. Pretty sure we can expect to see improvements over time so I'm keeping this installed.
Too many updates
I enjoy updating fairly regularly, I am one of the people that downloads the iOS and macOS updates on launch day. But the updates for messenger, appear far too often for my liking. Have noticed a few bugs in the software recently, maybe focus on fewer stable updates. Just my 10 cents.
