Lack of video recording in power point

It used to be my favourite product of Microsoft, but now I have a new device and found that Microsoft PowerPoint REMOVED the function to video record myself presenting the powerpoint. Very disappointing as I now have to find another add-on or programme to do this with. More work and time wasted.

Legacy hangs heavy

After years of Google Slides, Keynote, Canva, Figma and InDesign I finally had a project call for the use of PowerPoint. "No problem", I thought. "It's 2023, Microsoft Office will be well modernised by now."
Oh, how wrong I was.
In 2023, Powerpoint still has no concept of styles or style inheritance, other than the cryptic behaviour of Master Slides. Every routine action—like setting line height, indentation rules, bullet style—takes at least 3-6 clicks, and has to be repeated for each Master. God help you if you accidentally move a guide—there is no undo, nor is there a way to set exact positional values, unless you use an Addin or a Macro.
Power user functionality which you'd expect to be basic by now, such as running section headers or variables, is nowhere to be seen.
A whole cottage industry exists teaching people how to use Powerpoint like a "Pro", which is to say, with a great deal of patience, plugins and knowledge of arcane bugs that have existed since PPT 2003 but can never be fixed, lest the consulting industry collapse under change management costs the size of New Zealand's GDP.
If you can, use something else. Anything, *anything* is better than this horrible mess of legacy software.
And if you can't, well, I'll meet you at the bottom of the glass.

Sadly, not great

I used to love PowerPoint, but the desktop solution for Mac just ain't great in comparison to Google Slides. It's slow-loading, content moves around in ways I can't explain, you can't collaborate in a smooth way, you have to open up the desktop app if you want to edit... I sadly don't even trust that my content will be saved. I think this app needs a complete redesign with the internet era in mind, rather than trying to shoehorn a desktop app into an internet window, like what's happening here. Sorry, just not a great experience right now!
