Looks like Microsoft is forcing everyone to subscribe to Office 365! The app works fine as before for a few hours. Then the “option” to subscribe pops up and if you decline, the app simply hangs or crash. It happens even though I’m signed in to my Microsoft account as I have Office for Mac on my laptop. Boo…!!!
Good for viewing spreadsheets and nothing else
Beaniewee
Given that iPad OS 14 already has proper cursor and keyboard support, I believe it is not difficult for Microsoft to bring over the desktop version of Excel over to iPad.Let’s be brutally honest, Excel for iPad is great only when you are viewing spreadsheets. Trying to create or edit any spreadsheets will make you feel like tossing your iPad out of the window. You can’t bold/italics/underline your text, selection of cells is so frustrating, macros & VBA does not exist. It is nowhere near in functionality or feasible to use this Excel as a full desktop replacement. You’re better off using the web version of Excel in Safari instead to edit your spreadsheets. Seriously.Or is Microsoft purposefully gimping iOS apps to avoid cannibalising the sales of their Surface devices?
Concern Regarding Office 365 Basic Limitations
App open Blank
I subscribed to Office 365 Basic expecting to use it on my iPad, but I discovered that I cannot edit or save documents on this device. This limitation was not clearly communicated before subscription, which has caused frustration. At this point, I am committed to a one-month subscription and an additional annual subscription I purchased later. To use Office on my iPad, I would need to upgrade to the more expensive Office 365 Personal plan. As I am not a heavy user, this makes the current subscription an inefficient use of money.I am disappointed that this limitation was not highlighted upfront, and I hope Microsoft can make such restrictions clearer to help customers make informed choices.
Lousy Money-Grab for 0.1 inch Screen Size
ITB Veteran
I got an iPad 2020 with 10.2 inch screen size to replace my 8 year old first iPad as it was getting slow and difficult to use.On my old iPad, Excel was free. In my case, having bought the expensive desktop Excel program for over $350 an only fair way of extending my use.My replacement iPad’s screen size of 10.2 inches is 0.1 inch above Microsoft’s arbitrarily set 10.1 inch limit for free App use.NO WARNING ABOUT THAT ANYWHERE IN APP STORE OR ONLINE! Only after encountering the issue and googling it that became slowly apparent!I am 7 years unemployed and surely will not pay the extortionist fees for Office 365 for the rest of my life for using the App on my very own personal second device!I wanted to treat myself to an updated iPad - see how that has turned out!
