Glint - Great Functionality - at a Low Cost

I setup my Glint account 4 years ago. I find buying gold to be straight forward and the premium very low. Gold is allocated and stored in Swiss vaults.I have interacted with support staff initially on 2 or three occasions and have found their staff to be well informed and highly motivated to provide fast responses.The APP is simple and straight forward. My desire/goal was to protect my current bank USD fiat funds from debasement by transferring them into gold and silver bullion. I have most of my account in gold and silver bullion but keep a small amount in USD for small monthly vaulting fees. My card is set to make purchases out of only cash, not gold or silver. This keeps my Internet fraud potential loss at a minimum if my Glint debit card was compromised lost or stolen. It is limited to the $100 I keep in cash.This account is real savings. In today’s economy. While I do not consider it to be an investment in the long term, it has outperformed all of my other investments in real estate, equities, fiat cash. Gold and silver are a hedge against debasement of various domestic and foreign currencies.I guess you can say that I am a very satisfied Glint customer.

These guys have been nothing but hard to work with ever since I opened my account with them. Even though I had originally opened an account which I could use in Europe with Euros or Pounds they insisted I get a USA account (though I am a dual national and have and Irish passport). They made me transfer my account to the USA and I had to have it sent to a USA address even though I live overseas. Then when I went to use the card no one accepts it so it’s been virtually useless to me as a MasterCard. Next I tried to withdraw money to my bank ccount and they held up the withdrawal asking for a bank statement and did not sent me any notification of that even though they said they sent an email to me informing me of that. I thought this would be an easy, seemless way to trade in gold and for that part I guess it’s okay; but it has beeen far from seemless and your funds are not liquid as they have so many freaking rules and regulations and contrary advice from England to the USA; it’s simply a pain in the tush (posterior). So caveat emptor. Finally, this morning one of their people was helpful and responsive and assured me that my withdrawal is on its way to my bank. An update: if you have any spending discrepancies re. Price paid while overseas their staff is very responsive and will follow up on it.

Quick warning for anyone planning on using this card: they do not accept direct deposit from your employer (despite having a routing number) and only accept money from a ‘main bank account’ (despite being advertised as being usable as a main account). What this means is that every time you want money on this account, you have to manually wire it from a separate account. Every. Single. Time. That doesn’t sound very convenient now, does it? Unless you want to use it to save money (which still wouldn’t make the process any less inconvenient) this aspect makes using it to make everyday purchases a massive, pointless pain. After all, if you have a main bank account, why bother transferring the funds just to spend them? The only redeeming qualities of this service are the gold/bill exchange (aka the cornerstone of the service) and the design. These two things are the only reason that this review has two stars instead of one. However, if you want gold, you’re better off buying a gold coin, as it would have much more straightforward then this confused mess of an app.

Thank you for creating a way to save regardless of the quantity purchased to buy gold. I buy different quantities often and am slowly building a solid savings. Maybe you could look into adding an option of silver or create a sister account Slint to purchase and save silver the same way. That would expand your services and increase your customer base. The silver would allow for more people that feel they can’t afford gold. When figuring the fee’s, I would guess it’s less overall that the devaluation of the fiat currency. As solid investment over storing or saving in a bank especially with the high inflation known as the dollar devaluation!
