UpLift is the first self-help app for depression and anxiety of its kind. It's based on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, tested, and shown to work.
"I have already had my eyes opened to so many new tools in only one forty minute session with the app."
"Thank you so much. I'm seriously about to cry because today's session was so important and useful to me."
*SCIENCE*
A pilot study of 80 UpLift users showed that in just 1 month, those who stuck with the program had nearly a 50% reduction in depression scores that lasted, as well as a 37% reduction in anxiety scores. (1)
UpLift was developed by expert psychologists and leaders from the field of mobile mental health. It's based on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, which has been used to treat people with anxiety and depression for over 30 years.
*SESSIONS*
UpLift provides you with 11 interactive psychology sessions that are around 45 minutes long each week. In the sessions, you'll be answering questions, doing self care exercises, and getting customized feedback and guidance to strengthen your well-being.
Here are some of the sessions you'll work through:
- The Emotional Equation
- Positive Activities
- Lies Depression Tells You
- Recognizing Thought Errors
- Confronting Thought Errors
After the sessions, you'll unlock tools in your toolbox.
*MOOD TRACKER*
UpLift includes a free Mood Journal, otherwise known as a mood diary. Use it to track your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, and watch your progress on your mood chart.
*TOOLBOX*
The toolbox contains tools that enable you to apply the skills you learn in the sessions to your daily life.
Here's a sample of some of the tools you'll unlock with UpLift:
- Problem Solver
- Daily Mood Tracking
- Trigger Plan
- Thought Errors
- Anger Management
- Goal Trainer
- Mood Boosters
*COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY*
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a type of psychotherapy based on the idea that modifying thought and behavior patterns was more important than understanding the psychological origins of behavior.
Because this type of counseling does not require the presence of a therapist, attempts were soon made to automate the process, first with “bibliotherapy” (CBT self-help books), and then with “CCBT,” or Computerized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
UpLift is a new generation of CCBT (now called “iCBT”). UpLift uses our own proprietary programming technology to make it dynamic and responsive and modern UX design to make it a pleasure to use, while maintaining tried-and-proven CBT methods at it's heart.
*PRICING*
UpLift is free to download and the first session is free of charge. You can unlock all of the sessions and the entire toolkit via an auto-renewing subscription with a 7 day free trial.
Payment will be charged to your iTunes Account at confirmation of purchase. Your subscription of 1 year will automatically be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period at the same subscription length and price unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. (1) - Liu, E., & Pluta, A., & Dobson, K. (2018, November). Pilot Study on UpLift – A Computerized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Mobile App for Depression. Poster session presented at the 52nd Annual Convention for the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), Washington, D.C.
TL;DR: the app is based on science that works, is easy to use, effective, and app creators are very helpful. As the title states, I have been living with depression since childhood. I finally got help in my early 20’s in the form of medication and I attended therapy for 3 years. The combination worked for me. Almost 10 years later, I am still on medication and my lows do not get nearly as low as they did without meds. I am finishing my masters degree in counseling, I work, and I am a single mother to an awesome teen. Life should be great, but depression is a tricky beast. I’ve been struggling with low moods, lack of joy, and irritability. Being in isolation since March during a global pandemic, political upheaval, and environmental chaos is enough to make anyone feel down. So I found this app. So far, I have completed 4 chapters/lessons and they have really helped me to separate myself from symptoms of depression. Having lived with depression for pretty much my entire life, it’s easy to assume that these feelings are my personality. But they’re not. They are symptoms of a mental health issue which can be overcome. The app is based on CBT, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is effective in treating depression. It’s been helping me. I feel more like myself than I have in quite a long time. I’m very grateful and I suggest this app to anyone who is struggling with depression and/or anxiety and is ready to learn how to make changes to feel better. If you read this far, you’re a rockstar! I wish you well on your journey.

Thank you so much for the kind words! They're especially meaningful coming from someone working on a degree in counseling! We wish you the best of luck with your degree and your practice.
It does so many things

Where can I begin with this app. I came into it skeptical, really. But after my first good long session? I was wowed at how seriously and how in depth UpLift tackles depression and anxiety. And gives you tools to combat it.The price point was difficult for me; my mental health conditions leave me disabled so I’m on a fixed income. I was able to work something out with the team that we were both happy with, and I couldn’t have done it if they hadn’t been transparent in a reply to another review. This is a caring company that wants to genuinely help people improve their mental health. So if you can, buy the sub, it’s worth it. You get real CBT lessons, mood boosters, a mood journal, a tool that tracks your triggers, and much more I haven’t unlocked yet!If you have doubts, contact UpLift, they’ll happily talk to you about how it works and keeps working even after the last session.Space your sessions out like you would normal therapy so you have time to do the homework they give you! Don’t worry, it’s good homework. :) Try this app even if you’re skeptical like me. Be the end of the trial, you’ll love it or hate it. And I think you’ll love it if you’re really in need of a lift.

This app can be deceitful - and I want my $70 back

I have been trying things to improve my mental health because I’ve been struggling. I tried this app on top of seeing a therapist. I did the free trial, really hoping to be able to see in that time if this would be useful for me. If it was, I’d have no hesitation in paying for it.The first day, it asked me a few very brief questions. Then a day or two later, I got a push notification to answer a few more questions. It was again brief, and the little slides it had me read were fine, but nothing that couldn’t be found elsewhere easily for free. Then it said that it’s best to wait a few days before “meeting” again. I would have preferred to get into it more, sooner, knowing the clock was ticking on my free trial. I agreed to have the app check in with me in 2 days. However, the app never checked in again. And when I realized it, and decided the app wasn’t worth my $$, it was on the very day my 7 day trial ended, and I had been charged $70. I have no real understanding of what I’m paying for because so far it just seems like some mental health tips you could find with a quick google search. If there is more, this app did a terrible job of illustrating that in the 7 day period. If the app is going to suggest taking days off in between sessions, then the trial period needs to last longer to give people a real understanding of what they are paying for. And it might have been a fluke, but the fact that the app never “checked in” just makes me feel like I got a bit conned.

Thank you so much for your comments. That is definitely a fluke that the app never checked in with you! Please reach out to us at support@uplift.app and we'll be able to investigate this further and make sure you receive a refund.
Finally - An app that gets it right!

I’ve used every CBT app on iOS. Uplift is different because it starts where someone would need to start. Also, it’s not predictable. There is structure built in in a linear way. So all you have to do is focus on the work and not the app. I hope they make more apps like this one. Well done! A+ (and that says a lot coming from me, trust me)
