Barcode scanner works like a charm. Easy to use.

Update: The barcode scanner works very well. Definitely impressive. We'll be using this software to track all our pantry items. Thank you to the developer for responding and explaining the settings. We have been looking for a way to track the food we have in our pantry. So often we forget what we have and buy more before using the old. Today is the first day of trying this app. So far so good. We'd love to see an option to use a remote barcode scanner. The app currently has you hold the item in front of your computer camera. Scanning would be much faster if we could use our handheld scanner. Anyway, pleased so far. Love that the information is stored on our computer and doesn't require loading on our phones.

Hi Pepperh1,Thank you for using FoodShiner and with that trying to prevent food wastage and save the planet.Bluetooth scanners are supported already. At the moment it’s a minor integration but works quite good if your Bluetooth scanner acts like a keyboard for the Mac. In the settings of FoodShiner (general section) you’ll find the possibility to change from “camera” to “Bluetooth” and in this case you put the cursor in the barcode field and use your Bluetooth scanner to scan the barcode. This app is great and allows a lot of customizations. But a couple of things need to me fixed: 1. I tried avoiding writing a review so that I might be able to improve the rating I give after I hear from the writer/support. I could not find a way to contact support through the app so I went to the App Store. When attempting to contact support through the App Store I am taken to X (Twitter). I am NOT creating an x account to contact the writers. So a not so great review they get for now. 2. When I add an item to my list that I already have in stock, it lets me know. That’s great but when I by the item or stock the item, I want the app ask me if I want to replace the existing in stock item or if I want to add to the existing stock. Currently it just adds to. If it’s an item like lettuce, I might buy a fresh bunch weekly. 3. When I stock an item I just purchased, the app puts it in my Bar storage, alphabetically the first storage the app finds. If the item is an item that has previously been stored, it should put it in the previous storage. If it’s an item that is new to the app, it should either prompt me to choose a storage or put it in some sort of undefined storage so I can choose storage later. 4. In my kitchen-fridge storage, I have an open item that I can neither mark as consumed or throw. When I swipe right to left, the consume a product screen appears but save is grayed out. If I choose to throw the product, save is also grayed out. If I choose to edit the product and change the quality to zero, save grays out.

This is a fantastic app for keeping track of food items in your pantry, freezer, fridge or whatever. I’ve been using it for about 6 months and I’ve had a great experience. Its got a slight learning curve, but its easy to catch on to. Its very customizable so you can make it work for any situation. And even though its geared towards food, you can actually use it to inventory anything. Just set up your own products and storage areas. You can even take your own pictures to set up your own products, food or not. Hope the developer doesn’t mind non-food use! I use it for my freezer and pantry and I highly recommend this app. The developer is highly responsive to email. He needs more US users, and no, I have no connection to the developer. Daveroo

This is a fantastic app for keeping track of food items in your pantry, freezer, fridge or whatever. I’ve been using it for about 6 months and I’ve had a great experience. Great App but would love universal search

This app is fantastic and definetly deserves using the Tip function. I plan to do that on a regular basis as a great alternative to a subscription model. I would love it more if the search funciton searched all the storage locations instead of just the one you are currently in. Some items can be located in the freezer as well as the fridge or panty and this would make it easier to find. Another helpful improvement would be to allow multiple shops under a shopping list. For example, I created a Wholesale Club shopping list with Sams Club and Costco. Some items are unique to each club, but some can be bought at either.

- Mealplanner is finaly here. - Improve the barcode scanner so that the barcode is only detected inside the square. - Added the ability to import your existing recipes from Paprika or Mela. - You can now search on the smartlist soon to run out. - Added a batch mode make writing steps smoother, this will make it easier and faster to copy/paste an existing recipe to FoodShiner. - When creating a recipe, you can now organize steps into sections — perfect for recipes that require distinct preparation stages, such as making the dough and preparing the sauce. - You can now see which storage location a product belongs to when consuming it. - The same product can now be offered in multiple content sizes (e.g., 10 slices and 25 slices). - Added a new AppIntent to import CSV file, this intent works the same way as the import file interface in FoodShiner. - Added support of arabic language. - You can now change the location of automated backup. - Fixed a bug causing deletion of a recipe book to fail when iCloud sync is enabled. - Fixed a bug where soon to expire notification was shown for products that have been already consumed. - Fixed a rounding issue where product quantities were sometimes incorrectly rounded when consuming gram-precise amounts.
