How Euchre works (quick overview) To win, you and your partner must be the first team to reach the win target (10 by default). The team that names trump (the “makers”) scores points by taking tricks: • 1 point for taking 3 or more tricks • 2 points for taking all five tricks (a “march”) • 4 points for a Go Alone march If the makers fail to take three tricks, they have been euchred, and the defenders score 2 points. Quickfire rules After five cards have been dealt to each of the four players, the top of the four remaining cards is turned over to reveal the candidate card. Players take turns to pass or order up the candidate card, which sets trump to that suit. The dealer picks up the candidate card and discards one card from their hand. If all four players pass, the candidate card is turned down and each player can, in turn, pass or call a trump suit that cannot be the same as the candidate card suit. The team that chooses trump are the makers; the other team are the defenders. The player who chose trump may Go Alone, in which case their partner sits out for the hand. When trump is determined, the jack of that suit becomes the right bower (highest trump). The jack of the same colour becomes the left bower (second highest trump). Trump ranking: Right bower, Left bower, A, K, Q, 10, 9 Other suits: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9 (with the exception of the suit that loses its jack to become the left bower) Players must follow suit if possible. If not, they may play any card, including trump. The highest card of the led suit wins the trick, unless trump is played. At the end of the round, points are awarded based on tricks taken as described above. The game is won when one team reaches the win target.

Good — Only Three Issues

1. Ads are normally a dealbreaker for me, but these are infrequent enough to the point that it isn’t that big of a deal. That said, it still drops its rating for me.2. “Four Tricks Bug” — sometimes when I go alone, it only lets me play the first four tricks, and skips the last one and only gives me one point (i.e. no solo march bonus) EVEN IF I would have won the last hand (Right, left, ace, king, and queen).3. I also have an issue with the CPUs’ logic — let’s say North is the dealer and picks up the Jack of Spades. Play goes to East, and they play the Ace of Hearts. If I had the Left Bower and played it, then North would logically have NO REASON to play the Right Bower, since I have the trick secured. And yet here we are. With my partner trumping MY left. It would be fine if North had only cards that couldn’t be beaten left (the Ace, King, Queen, and 10 as well) but then it leads with a card that CAN be trumped/beat. Dumb ahh bot.

Fun but has issues

This game is quick and fun. I like that the ads runs during the game and not in between. It plays very quickly. But there are some issues. First, if my partner makes trump and I lead the left it will take it with the right. Second is how the computers play. If the computer makes trump, at some point during the hand it will lead with a trump knowing that it’s their last trump and there are higher trumps still to play. So it gets trumped and has no trump left leading to a euchred. Lastly, I’ve noticed one of the computer players making trump with little or actually no trump at all. Hopefully this is something the developers can work out.

I had hopes for this game but after too many hands of the opponents getting multiple alone hands during a game, or hands where the take all 5 tricks because multiple times in a row they have 5-6 trump cards per hand and their non trump cards are aces. Between that and a partner that multiple times ordered me to pick up the trump card to be euchred because my partner had ZERO trump cards in their hand. I finally became so frustrated that after I post this review I’m deleting the app. The ONLY good thing is there are very few ads and ost of them are short. Get this app if you like having an idiot for a partner or need to raise your blood pressure because you’ll be that frustrated.
