Now you can play Word Social for FREE with this ad-supported version! Word Social is an addictive new game for the iPhone and iPad where you search for words in a grid of 4x4 random letters. It's a social (i.e., party) because everybody who's online plays against each other! Everybody sees the same grid at the same time. At the end of each 2-minute game, you find out how well you did against your competition. Word Social uses the Elo rating system to mathematically calculate a rating for you based on who you play and how well you do against them (i.e., if you win or lose). Compare ratings with your friends for bragging rights! Word Social is made by the developer of tChess (the popular chess app) and Learn Chess (the Apple Staff Favorite e-book).

Word Social is a great real-time competition game for those who like word finding. Each round is nice and short, so you can still play if you're short on time. I enjoy measuring my word skills against others. The ads don't get in the way of play—I've never accidentally clicked on one like I do in some games.Just don't expect it to be social in a "social networking" kind of way. You can see the names and scores of other competitors, but there is no message or chat feature. I'm also not sure how Game Center makes it better: I can't find achievements, or challenges, or a leader board. But this isn't a problem with the game—just don't expect the wrong thing because of the title.

I still have ways to go to get better (English isn't my first language), but I can't put this game down. Way too much fun seeing if I can best the folks in the next round of the tournament :)
