I’m a mid-latitude aurora hunter (Washington state, USA) so I have to watch the data and pay attention frequently in order to catch the lights. I’ve checked out a lot of aurora apps, and actually downloaded every free one for iOS. This one is good. It has literally everything I can think of that I would want. Basic prediction options for the current moment, tonight, tomorrow, the next day, or the foreseeable future. If you want more than predictions it has live feeds of incoming solar wind data. It has your local weather, cloud cover and temp. It’s great. I’ve bought apps that ended up seeming like they were just based on Kp alone and they really miss out on the most important data. This ones good, check it out.

2 things need to change

So I absolutely love this app but there is one major thing that really grinds my gear. When you first open the app it brings you to the percentage of likely seeing the Aurora along with the aurora strength. It would still be nice to even see if the possibility is zero and the aurora strength despite it being high or low. There has only been two occasions where those two aspects of the app have actually had data on them. For example I use the aurora pro app as well, and if there is no chance of seeing the Aurora at that time it will say 0%. I like this app better because it gives you way more information than the Aurora Pro app that I also use and that would literally be the only thing I would recommend adding to this app. When the Aurora Pro app even says one or 2% there have been times that I have seen the aurora. And when I log into this app it doesn’t say anything. It just has a dash across the chance of seeing the Aurora and the aurora strength. And then when you click for more information it doesn’t give you the detail details either it just has that dash where the number should be. Please fix this and I will delete all other apps!!!!

Hellooo Aurora is right! Amazing App!

All my life I’ve wanted to see the aurora in person. We recently had a short stay-over in Iceland, and this app led directly to multiple, spectacular viewings! I downloaded several similar apps, and this one was the only one that accurately forecast and notified me when aurora were visible. It’s also beautifully designed and easy to use. The data is well-presented and the included explanations are very helpful. The social aspect, with people posting when they spot the aurora, is fun and also a great way to know when the aurora is active. I’m so grateful to the developers for creating this app and for their help in giving me this experience!
Good app with lots of data

I use this app to track the aurora in Montana. It works well, is intuitive, and has decent notifications. My only complaint is that it only lets you upload pictures of the aurora in the moment. I took a bunch of great photos and tried uploading them the next morning and it wouldn’t let me “Aurora not active in you area error message. It would be nice to be able to upload a photo after the fact and specify the date, time, location that you took it!
Developer Response
Thank you so much for your valuable feedback! We are happy to hear that the app is working well for tracking the aurora in Montana and that you have found it intuitive. We sincerely apologise for the late reply, but we wanted to take the time to carefully address your suggestion. The "Moments" feature was designed to share live aurora photos in real-time, which is why it currently only allows uploads when the aurora is active. However, we absolutely love your idea of being able to upload photos taken after the specifying the date and location. This is a fantastic suggestion, and we will definitely consider it for future updates.Thank you again for sharing your thoughts with us, we are always working to improve, and your input helps us do that!
- Times and dates now follow your local timezone everywhere, so the forecast lines up with your day.
- Charts resize more smoothly and squeeze in more time labels when there's room.
- Upcoming hours are now shown lighter, so it's easy to tell forecast from measured.
- Clearer min and max labels replace the old best marker.
- Pull to refresh on any home tab.
- Polished wording and a handful of small fixes.
