Description
The 3M Mobile Microphone is a mobile application that allows clinicians to dictate using the 3M Fluency Direct Desktop Application without the need for a physical microphone attached to the PC. Once the mobile application is paired onetime with a 3M Fluency Direct User ID, the user of the application can dictate using 3M Fluency Direct running on any physical desktop or virtual device without a need for docking, Bluetooth or physical connections. The Application uses secure data transmission to stream audio from the mobile device directly to 3M Fluency Direct running elsewhere. It builds on the same cloud-based 3M Speech Understanding™ technology powering all 3M solutions, so existing clinician voice profiles can be used easily and instantly for optimal accuracy.

Lock Screen & repeatedly disconnects
I really like this microphone better than all my dictation options, when it works. I’d like the developers to consider having a Lock Screen override. When my phone automatically locks, it stops recording. And reconnecting is a real problem. I spend so much time reconnecting, multiple times per day, which is super frustrating when this is supposed to save me time. I end up typing my notes often bcs it won’t stay connected. If I delete the app & reinstall in helps but this is all too time consuming.
Function is hit and miss, zero support from company
I have been using, or attempting to use this app for several months. If the stars are aligned just right it may work. It shows it is connected and the green “vu meter” bar on the computer screen (and in the app) light up when I speak. Unfortunately, nothing transcribes most of the time. About every third or fourth use it will work but only if I’m in a speech box as they call it. If I happen to click out of that box to look up something like a patient’s age or weight in my EMR and try to go back to the speech box and continue dictating I’m out of luck. It simply won’t do it. At that point I get an alert box saying “M*Modal Fluency Direct was unable to recognize your dictation. Please make sure correct microphone is selected and calibrated. “
Needless to say nothing works at that point. Even if I close everything (losing all my dictation) and restart it usually won’t recognize the phone mic.
Does support answer my numerous feedbacks? No! Do they care? Apparently not. This app is like some amateurish free app you see out there except medical documentation is serious business. Too bad the mmodal jokers don’t understand that.
bugs
Hold to ear mode doesn’t work right on ios 11. It automatically switches off after a minute or so and won’t come back on until manually toggled. Possibly related to the screen auto-off.
