What’s New

Version 0.9.7

- Fixes to drawing from an empty public objectives deck (rare but edge case that could happen)
- A fix to SimultaneousSupplyAndReconcile to make sure selection counters were always synced in its usages
- Fix for a softlock during initial planning
- Fix specifically to the Famine ability's use of SupplyAndReconcile (specifically, we found out that we were trying to commit staged selections after making.... 0 of them, and apparently this causes things to break), we expect this to be the cause of some other desyncs as well. (and probably related to GT-237)
- Challenge: Stark house does not support its own troops when the Support order is available is now fixed.
- DWD: Desynch can occur after placing order event, is now fixed.
- Action Phase: Desync can occur when a player is choosing to Support, is now fixed.
- User softlocks when entering a PVE match, is now fixed.
- If you attack one empty area and one area occupied by the same faction and win, one unit from you and one unit from your opponent can be placed at the same location at the end of the turn if the beaten enemy retreats to the previous empty point. This is now fixed.

Getting Better

I reviewed this game as a 1 star near when it first came out, it was nearly unplayable. Now however, they have fixed many (not all!) of the bugs. This game is playable and somewhat enjoyable now, but there needs to be some more effort from the developer. Instead of game breaking bugs, there are bugs like not being able to see the end of the game score in async games, sometimes the game pauses for a day or two and then randomly continues, sometimes the game decides to play your fight card for you. The worst part, however, is the 7 day player turn. This badly needs to be upgraded to at least 14 days, if not 45 like many other async board games. Most of our games end due to player timeout because if they stop earlier than the other players at night and work most of the day then they inevitably run out of time. This is how most of our games end, to someone timing out and being replaced by a bot.

DWD purchase doesn’t sync between devices?

Before I give a review, I’m having an issue with syncing my DWD purchase between my iPhone and my iPad. I purchased DWD (and the app) on my iPhone, and then launched it on my iPad. However, while I have an Asmodee account which is synced on both devices, it’s requiring me to pay for DWD again on my iPad. Is the intent that we have to pay for DWD multiple times or is this a bug?

Follow-up: Unfortunately, my issue was never solved. While their team tried to help, it felt nominal at best. I paid for the game twice in the hopes of getting MoD as my way of investing in this game.

Review: I’m sad to say that this version just isn’t as strong as the free version on the internet. Until they release a bug-free game with Mother of Dragons, I believe the other free versions online are far superior to this paid version. The animations are nice, but I’d rather see a much simpler and more strategic overview of the map rather than scrolling just to see what other players are doing. There is hardly any online presence, and it seems difficult to keep games in a PBEM state for a group of friends. I’m rooting for this team because I want to see MoD, but I’ve been disappointed so far.

Developer Response ,

Hello there. We're sorry to hear that you are having issues with your purchases aggregating across your different Apple devices. Your DLC purchases should be shared across your iPhone and iPad devices as long as you are signed in to the same Apple & Asmodee.Net account. What we recommend is that you log in to the application and then sign out and back in to your Asmodee.Net account again, making sure that you are logging into the exact same account. If this does not work, please do not hesitate to reach out to our support team via Helpshift so that they can offer additional support: https://asmodee.helpshift.com/a/a-game-of-thrones-the-board-game---digital-edition/?contact=1

50% of the time it works half the time

UPDATE: v0.9.5 didn’t appear to fix much. 1st async multiplayer game got stuck trying to bid on Turn 2. Still a 1-star release.

Great single player experience, terrible and broken multiplayer. When it works, it’s awesome, and when it inevitably breaks, it’s super frustrating. My group of friends have yet to complete a game because of the horrendous sync issues. Most turns involve restarting the app to fetch the latest updates. Or maybe it won’t fetch updates and you’ll just have 2 players stuck in combat with the game telling each player it’s the other’s turn, but nobody can actually take an action so the game just stops. Or maybe the AI bot won’t know how to break ties when bidding and kick everyone from the game. Or everyone will just be kicked out for no good reason at all. This game is yet another example of terrible software design practices where they ship a product without proper testing, and use us, the paying players, as their QA. I don’t recommend buying until they release a proper patch that fixes these unacceptable bugs.

Developer Response ,

Hello Lateralus. We have been made aware of some lingering issues after our most recent patch and are working hard on a follow-up patch to resolve these lingering problems. We believe that the problem causing desyncs on bidding is caused by the Rodrick card, which we are working on right now.

Update: We released a number of fixes yesterday that were intended to resolve several bugs and stability issues that were lingering still from our previous patch. We highly recommend you try updating your client and trying the game again to see if the issues you were encountering are resolved.
