Plan your focus with clear depth of field results, a visual focus map, and camera-specific data. Built for photographers and filmmakers on iPhone and iPad.
Know what will be in focus before you shoot. Digital DoF helps photographers and filmmakers plan depth of field for digital cameras, cinema cameras, and film formats.
Choose your camera, enter focal length, aperture, and subject distance, and see your results in a clear, practical layout.
PLAN YOUR FOCUS
• Calculate depth of field, near and far focus limits, and hyperfocal distance.
• See how much of the focus range falls in front of and behind your subject.
• Use the visual focus map to understand the calculated range at a glance.
• Switch between feet and inches or metres and centimetres.
• Adjust circle of confusion when your workflow calls for it.
FIND YOUR CAMERA
Browse and search camera-specific data across digital photography, cinema, and film formats. The catalog includes major camera brands, with additional camera models available as optional in-app purchases. You can also request a camera from within the app.
COMPARE YOUR SETUPS
The optional Comparison Calculator lets you compare two camera and lens setups side by side, so you can explore how camera choice, focal length, aperture, and distance affect your results.
SAVE YOUR SETTINGS
Create a free account to save and sync camera configurations across devices, then reopen a saved setup when you need it. The main calculator works without an account.
MADE FOR IPHONE AND IPAD
Version 6.0 brings a redesigned interface, clearer controls, refreshed camera images, and a new app icon.
Digital DoF is free to download. Optional in-app purchases unlock additional camera data, the Comparison Calculator, and ad removal. Previous purchases can be restored through the Store.
Will you be adding a version for the Sony Alpha 1? Why does the depth of field vary by camera model? Why wouldn't the depth of field be the same for all full-frame cameras?

Each sensor is different even if the cameras are all full-frame
Inaccurate

Hyperfocal distances are inaccurate (not even close) with my digital cameras; for example on my Fuji GFX 100 it gives a hyperfocal distance of 8.45 feet at f/5.6 on a 23 mm lens. If using this calculation and focusing at 8.45 ft, the first ~12 feet is in focus while the entire background beyond that is very soft/blurred. The actual hyperfocal distance using the above camera/lens combo to make everything in the scene in sharp focus is ~22 feet. May be accurate for very small prints though. I’ve now found the only way to find the accurate hyperfocal distance for each lens and f-stop and camera is testing by trial and error with a tape measure.

Hi thanks for the feedback but you can also add your own CoC and get more accurate results with your particular situation… so the app does have that functionality already built in and you can save those settings as well.
The support email link in the app does not work.

I like this app and find it useful, especially for Large Format Photography. When entering the distance does one measure from the film plane/sensor plane or from the front of the lens. This is especially relevant for close-up work. In the case of my 8 x 10 camera there is an 18+ inch difference. I urge you to add this information to the app. Thanks.

Hi, the mail link should work I get emails all the time. If you click the plus button “add camera” - the email goes to me. I’ll check if the other links work as well. Appreciate you letting me know. What 8x10 cam do you have? Also if the coc is wrong you can manually add it through some trial and error for your camera and get pretty accurate results.Hope that helps

It's alright; I'm a doctor.
Installed, didn’t open. Deleted and installed again. Still didn’t open. Rechecked compatibility - iOS 12. That checked out fine, too. I am sure this is working great for many folks, and I hate to leave such negative feedback, especially since the price is right and the developer seems to have been responsive, but maybe this note will reassure anyone having the same experience that they are not crazy.
