Description

Arnold Reading Magic (ARM) is designed specifically to help learners overcome reading difficulty due to dyslexia and other reading disabilities. It allows learners to practice reading and spelling in a flashcard format.

Arnold Reading Magic is perfect for parents or teachers to use to individualize learning and keep a record of the results. ARM will greatly benefit a person with learning disabilities such as dyslexia where repetition and review are important in retaining learned information.

The presentation speed can be controlled with the goal of increasing the speed over time to a mastery level. Errors can be easily marked for immediate review, and a history is kept of each session. Multiple learners can be added quickly along with additional learning material (lists and phrases). ARM is useful for people preschool age and up.

For maximum benefit, young children will need an adult to set up and run the app as operator/tutor. Middle-school ages and up can use ARM independently.

ARM is not a game; it's a serious learning tool based on over 40 years of teaching experience. The in-person clinic is in Middleton WI (http://www.ArnoldReadingClinic.com/).

Very Grateful Mom ,

Excellent Reading Tool!

My 10 year old daughter has dyslexia and we were lucky enough to be beta testers for this app. I am so pleased with this app that I felt absolutely compelled to write a review in the hopes that it will help other parents that have children with dyslexia.

These are some of the features that I have really loved:

1. I am able to easily track which word groups my daughter is working on. Each list of words allows me to indicate wether we are just starting with a list, advancing (almost there!) or mastered a list. At a glance, I can see what we have done and what still needs work.

2. As we work through a list of words, I can easy mark which ones my daughter has missed so that we can come back and focus on those tough words instead of repeating the entire list. I can also tell if there are recurring trouble words that we need to give special attention to.

3. I can easily change the speed to control how fast the words are displayed on the screen and I can pause at any time to review a word that is giving her trouble and then continue on with the list when we’re ready.

4. There is a spelling mode so she can work on spelling all of the words in her list. I love that this feature gives her time to think about the letters/sounds that make up each word so that she can apply this skill when she's writing.

5. I also love that I can create custom lists! We can make lists with words that she uses regularly in her writing. The options are limitless.

I am extraordinarily pleased with the Arnold Reading Magic app. It has been a very useful tool for our family and I highly recommend it!

Great app for struggling readers

My 10 year old son has dyslexia and we were beta testers for this app. Struggling readers will find this app useful in that it allows for repetition as often as needed for the reader to become successful at each word list at his/her own pace. As the reader practices the lists, the tutor can mark any errors made or words to review again as the student reads. All marked words can be found in the Missed Phrases section for future practice, allowing the reader to get extra repetition on those trouble words. We use about 5 lists at a time and work our way through them as often as needed until my son has shown mastery. As one list is mastered, we add a new list to practice next time and on some days we only review the missed words lists.

The app offers the tutor/adult user to create custom reading lists that can support the reader on words specifically designed for that reader. For example, my son struggles with b/d letter reversals. I have created a list that has him practicing identifying which letter is which.

Besides using the app for my son, I have my younger child, who’s a beginner reader but not dyslexic, using the app as well to practice the high frequency words and vowel sounds. Both children also enjoy being able to practice their weekly spelling words from school on the app in the custom lists section.

The progress and graphing sections are a quick and easy way to see what lists have been worked on, progress towards mastery, and what lists have been mastered. My son loves looking at the progress and graph sections after reading to see how close he is to his goals. Each list has a log that records previous uses, making it easy for the tutor to quickly look back and see what was accomplished during the last use to know where to begin next.

Repetition is key to reading success for struggling readers and with the help of this app my son is becoming a strong, confident reader.
