Man! I feel like a (strong) woman!

I’ve worked out consistently nearly all of my adult life, after playing sports most of my childhood. This last year has been challenging for our family. Besides the usual busyness of having three young kids (8,5,2), my husband has been in grad school in addition to an overly taxing job (in hours, stress, and emotion). So when the school year ended last June, my consistency fell off the tracks. The programs I had previously had good traction with were unappealing. But for the last several years, including through two of my pregnancies, I’ve loved barre workouts. My body has always responded well to the intentional movements, strengthening, and toning. It’s helped with my own mental health in feeling connected to my body in a way that I don’t always connect with typical strength training - the mind/ muscle connection asks for more. After a few days of IG ads for Barre Definition back at the end of January, I decided to try the one week free trial and told myself that if I found myself sticking to it and benefiting from it, I’d join. I was hooked immediately. Jacquelyn has created an amazing app and program. I’m currently halfway through the 90 Day Program and have worked out 4-6 times per week since I started. I can see a difference in my body already- more toned and slimmed down. But HOW my body feels is the best part - strong, feminine, balanced, and whole. So thankful for all that Barre Definition offers! It is high quality and affordable.

Post-Partum Slimdown

I took about six months to recover from my emergency C-section. In that time, I was only doing walks and physical therapy style core re-engagement exercises. I started using BD in January and have lost about 7 pounds from then. I’m beginning to see the long abdominal lines on the sides and my mama muffin top has shrunk quite a bit. I can even squeeze into some of my pre-pregnancy jeans again.

When I first started using the BD workouts, I could barely do a push-up or plank (and I was super fit before) and just did the modifications as needed, and I’m happy to report that now I am doing planks and knee push-ups. I would try some of the videos without weights for the first time, and as I became acclimated, I added in weights or progressed to heavier weights.

Action Jacquelyn makes for such a fun workout partner to have for home workouts It’s like working out with a bestie. I usually have my baby in a playpen next to me while I do the video off of an iPad on a stand. Her app is affordable and makes working out really doable when you have a baby at home. I love not having to drive anywhere or find childcare, but I’m able to train still. I also love that she has different programs you can follow. Or you can just do the weekly schedule. I also love that the workouts are anywhere between 15 to 40 minutes and it’s so doable. I’ve just started the April program and I’m excited to continue to see progress both in my muscle tone and on the scale.

On the fence? Try it! You won’t regret it.

I honestly can’t say enough good things about Barre Definition! I took interest in the program after seeing an ad for the prenatal workouts while pregnant with my 4th baby. After having 3 kids in 3 years prior to this pregnancy, my core was absolutely destroyed. I knew I needed to get strong for this pregnancy and delivery, or it would be much more difficult. I was hesitant, because I hadn’t worked out in about a year and didn’t want to overdo it. I decided to do the free trial week… and loved it! I have never had a better barre workout, even in with nice gym memberships. Plus there are yoga and Pilates based videos, or even just stretching. Each video is labeled with the intensity level and what equipment is needed. This is so helpful on days when I am not at my best and just want a simple workout. I only have managed to get in about 2 workouts per week since 17 weeks. I am now 39 weeks and feel great! My core is stronger than before this pregnancy and I can actually feel my abs engage for the first time in years. I am confident I am ready for delivery. I am also excited to start the new postnatal program soon. For a tiny fraction of what I would have spent to get back in the gym after baby, I am already in great shape and can continue after my little one arrives. All this to say, just try it! I definitely have no regrets and will recommend it to anyone I know looking for a good exercise program.
