The instrument sounds in this app are great and I learned the interface from scratch in under 30min with no previous experience using loop oriented music recording software and wrote the sketch of a blues rock song in about an hour and sent it to musician friends. All in all the quality of sounds and the ease of use earn this app a 10 star review. The only reasons I didn’t give it a 5 star review are the relative lack of Blues/Rock oriented instrument packs and I’d like their file exporting to be a bit easier. That was the only place I had troubles with using the app (there are simple workarounds and all, but this app has such amazing capabilities that why not just shoot for the stars). The piano sound is actually good and holds its own to other standalone apps, the baroque instruments are the same (blew my mind), the Hammond is gorgeous, and the electric pianos, Mellotron (different league than Module’s, but not as good as UVI’s own for their computer Workstation), blues guitars, and drum kits and all very useable. I haven’t even plugged a keyboard into this to write yet, but I can tell you it just makes it all easier to play. Extremely good app for the money and hard drive space. Really, combined with GarageBand and Hokusai, it’s everything you need for all app pro quality music production. 20 yrs ago, this would have been unimaginable. 10 years ago, still impossible. Now, it’s actually cheap! Lol. What a time to be alive.
An Outstanding Instrument! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I have only for stars because I believe nothing in this world is truly perfect and we all can get better from time to time out doing ourselves by improving achieving what we never thought we could. That being said, I think this app is on of the best out there. The sound library’s are phenomenal with both richness and quality samples. Going through the sounds made me feel like a child at a candy shop. I’m so excited for all the amazing music I will be making using this instrument. I was glad that the interface is very simple and easy to learn and a master. Lastly, I’m so excited for all the future updates and a new instrument preset packs Beathawk will add to there already massive library. A musician/composer/writer/singer, can never have enough sounds and presets to utilize. Always remember that. You can never have enough sounds. 😉 Keep of the great work Beathawk team. I truly appreciate what you all do and all of your hard work. Thanks 🙏🏾
Some great sounds, could use work

I bought this not as a groove box (Koala probably a better choice?) but for some great UVI sounds no one else has on iOS. The Wurlitzer is easily worth the price of admission, I wasn’t able to find decent Classical Percussion anywhere else, and the Acoustic Drums has round robins which I wasn’t able to find elsewhere on iOS. However, the Acoustic Drums is only one kit with a heavy Rock Ride and everything is compressed and EQd to within an inch of its life. So need to tame that in spots which is hard, this is produced for beginners at mixing I suppose, the “finished sound” idea. Well, not finished for everything.Encouraged, I tried the Woodwinds, they are a total disaster, I was able to somewhat save the flutes and clarinets with the envelopes but for some buggy reason the envelopes don’t apply to the oboes. The woodwinds samples pan themselves all over the place, awful primitive sounds, should have a demo mode like Korg Module has to avoid bitter commentary. You can’t even see what you get in these packs. I will have to pay for SWAM I suppose. The Rhodes isn’t as good as the Wurli, I suppose they are being kind to partner VTines which is a lot more costly. I am not so interested in the rest of the offerings the Woodwinds ruined it for me. I have an awful lot of UVI on desktop so I had some hopes here, they clearly have the Falcon engine ported across, maybe Logic will bring enough business for them to get interested in iOS again. But I am happy with the wurli and classical percussion available in AUM via AUv3. Maybe I use some more of it sometime.
Superb app. Aging well.

My favorite thing about this app is the abundance of sounds you can purchase. To be fair, they’re sometimes hit and miss (like samples of world instruments being too short, odd variations, or looping in weird spots). But in contrast to what is offered elsewhere, BeatHawk is a big winner. This is especially crucial when you consider that BeatHawk has a lot of power as an audio unit. It gives you several variations of options for controlling embedded instruments. It also has a number of loops, sliced or stretched. For what it currently offers, BeatHawk gets a 5, despite it still having a few shortcomings in my book. a. I would like to see a BeatHawk solo option where I can load one sampler as an au instead of the whole dang program. b. I would like to see a daytime mode. This thing is REALLY hard to use on a sunny day!!c. I’d like to see an MPE mode. Similar to the solo option. Considering that BeatHawk has 16 lads (channels) you can load different sounds into. You should also be given the option to quickly and easily load a sound into all 16 channels and use it as an MPE device (bonus if it can record it all simultaneously for patterns !)I have countless apps. For sounds like drums, world instruments and various other sounds, I have warmed up more and more towards BeatHawk as being a personal favorite.
