Thousands of details have been considered in pursuit of a single goal: make getting, playing, and managing audiobooks a delightful experience.
Sliders are difficult with long audio. If you mis-slide, you can't get back to where you were, making it very easy to lose your place. For this reason, Book Mower has no position scrubber. Instead, the app provides customizable skip buttons: jump by specific amounts in either direction.
A Driving Mode makes listening to audiobooks in the car safer. The screen becomes tap-to-play/pause and swipe-to-skip.
Book Mower continues playing in the background after leaving the app, and automatically transitions between parts of books.
Book Mower will keep track of your progress with automatically created bookmarks. Events, such as chapter transitions, interruptions (like phone calls), and app suspensions, get bookmarked. Just tapping Pause will create a bookmark also, so you don't have to do anything special to create one. Then, if you customize any bookmarks -- change their name, color, position or notes, -- they become permanent, and you can export them as HTML/CSV/Text.
The Sleep Timer has features like shake-to-add-time, auto screen dimming, and it bookmarks when the timer started and ended, so you can easily pick up where you dozed off.
Playback Speed Controls offer fine-grained adjustment, with non-linear increments: from slightly faster to double speed.
Book Mower works great with remote controls, like Bluetooth or Apple headphones. With any audio, you can play/pause remotely. If you listen to DRM-free audiobooks, you can also skip +/- 30 seconds, and create bookmarks even while the app is backgrounded.
Complete control over audio files:
- Reorder parts/chapters.
- Rename audiobooks and parts/chapters.
- Cover artwork can be added or replaced -- just a simple copy-and-paste of any image from web or photo library. Use hi-res images for Retina display devices.
- Download/delete/re-download audio files whenever you want.
Redirect audio output with AirPlay support.
Get, play and manage audio content from a wide variety of sources -- iTunes, Audible.com, Librivox.org, CDs, public library downloads, ... .
Free Audiobooks included:
Search or Browse through thousands of titles available from Librivox.org directly in the app. Browse and add to your Bookshelf, then download when you are ready to listen.
iTunes Audiobook Store is built right in: browse the most popular titles and search the entire catalog.

This app has been updated by Apple to display the Apple Watch app icon.
Alright, I'm still working on a major update, but I've found this feature too useful to hold up...
There's a new "push pin" icon on the main screen that creates a "Pin Dropped" bookmark. Once that has been tapped, a "push pin play" icon is available, which will, you guessed it, play from the dropped pin location.
Why is this useful? Well, let's say you're done listening to an audiobook, and you hit pause, and put your phone away, but something happens that causes the audiobook to start playing again without you noticing (bluetooth, "pocket dial", etc.). Sometime later, you open the app and discover you're not where you expected, so you have to dig through the bookmarks to find where you last paused. With the Push Pin, whenever you're done listening for a while, you "drop a pin", then it doesn't matter what happens, when you open the app back up, you push the new "push pin play" icon, and you're right back where you left off. Or, perhaps you want a simpler method to create custom bookmarks, without having to wade through the sea of Pause or auto-bookmarks to find the one to customize. Just drop a pin (no need to pause), and customize it later (they're gold colored, so they're easy to find). Or, maybe you want to play a particular section of the audio over and over. Just drop a pin at the start location, and hit the "push pin play" button to get back to it as many times as you like.
When you customize a "Pin Dropped" bookmark, a new bookmark is created, so you don't lose your "pin".

Best option for listening to audiobooks on IPhone
Importing is easy enough, there are multiple options but I just sync through ITunes. Where this app shines is its ability to auto-order the MP3 tracks (or most other audio files) so I never have to double check that the book is in the right order. Another must have feature is that it saves your place in the book at various intervals (start and stop, headphones in or out, etc...) so you never have to re-find your place in the book.
I had one problem with importing books and e-mailed support. They got back to me with help in around 5 minutes (9:31 to 9:36)! It turned out to be a problem with my phone, but that is great customer service.
This app is well worth the $3.99 In-app purchase for unlimited use. I would recommend this to anyone who listens to their own audiobooks, as all others I've tried don't come close to how good this app is.
I was looking for an App that would allow me to play Audible Audiobook flies at varying speeds. The default Audible app goes from 1x to 1.25x so I was looking for something with more options in between. Enter Book Mower...
Unfortunately, even though the app has a number of varying speeds programmed in, there’s a serious degrading of audio quality with anything selected other than 1x speed. It’s annoying enough that I’d prefer to use the default Audible App (or will look for another app that allows various playback speeds for Audible files).
A decent app. But not quite up to par for my needs.
Perfect for me
I have purchased maybe 5 apps, yeah, I'm that guy. I started listening to audiobooks a few years ago and wanted something that was simple. Well, this is the one that I bought. Being able to transfer files using a web browser is friggin amazing. But! I found that not only could I open files using BookMower from Drive or Dropbox but it would import them into an existing book or a new one. Blew my mind.
