Description

An easy way to view the glucose levels and insulin pump information of a person with diabetes.

Now you can follow up to five people simultaneously. Right on your phone, The CareLink™ Connect app provides an easy way to view the sensor glucose levels of a person with diabetes using some Medtronic devices.

When a family member or a friend has diabetes, you want to be supportive and stay close. You might want to know if their glucose levels go too high or too low, be able to quickly and easily access their insulin pump or Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) system information.

To remotely access sensor glucose levels or pump system information, care partners need to install the CareLink™ Connect app on their smartphone. Additionally, the person with diabetes must have a compatible MiniMed™ insulin pump or CGM connected to the CareLink™ software through the corresponding patient mobile app. For more information about the CareLink™ Connect app, please visit medtronicdiabetes.com or contact a Medtronic representative.

IMPORTANT NOTE: For real-time updates, the app must consistently receive data from the CareLink™ server, while the insulin pump or CGM system must continually upload data to the CareLink™ server. The CareLink™ Connect app exclusively supports the MiniMed ™ 700-series insulin pump and selected CGM systems. It does not support all other CGM systems, MiniMed™, or Paradigm™ insulin pumps. To find a list of compatible smartphones, please visit medtronicdiabetes.com/app-check.

The CareLink™ Connect app is intended to provide a secondary display of insulin pump and CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) data on a supported mobile device. CareLink™ Connect app is not intended to replace the real-time display of insulin pump or CGM data on the primary display device. All therapy decisions should be based on the primary display device.

CareLink™ Connect app is not intended to analyze or modify the insulin pump and CGM data that it receives. Nor is it intended to control any function of the insulin pump or CGM system to which it is connected. CareLink™ Connect app is not intended to receive information directly from the insulin pump or CGM system.

This app is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always seek the advice of your physician, or other qualified health care provider with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition or treatment. Please note that this app store should not be your primary method of resolving technical or customer service issues. Very Frustrating - Questionable Use-case

As the adult child of a long-time Medtronics pump system, I’ve been on the app since original launch.
Apart from specific app issues (below), I question the value and purpose of the app and have come to believe it creates a false sense of security. we’ve come up with elaborate protocols for what to do if he does not respond when I get an alert. However, simple things like not having a good mobile signal have caused escalations. My being on the app gives the feeling of security - that I’m watching and can actually do something in an emergency -but I now seriously question that premise. Medtronics is totally useless as to user guidelines taking no ownership for how it should be used. Have a serious talk with your family about how you will use this before starting - what are you going to do if you get an alert at 2 am? And still be prepared for frustration and stress.
As to specific app issues:
It seems like they’ve finally fixed the “remember log-in” problem. I have the app set to notify me if my father doesn’t clear an alert within 5 minutes but I still get notifications even when he has cleared his alert within the 5 minute window. Makes no sense. Also, the app repeatedly changes my notification settings, most annoyingly, turning on the “repeat warning” feature. Weird but true.

Notifications and Repeats are horrible!

One of the best things about being able to monitor my spouse’s glucose levels should be the notification functionality. HOWEVER, if I tell the app to wait 15 minutes before notifying me, I get that notification EVEN if my wife has already acknowledged the notification on her pump, and EVEN IF she is no longer low (or high or whatever) at the time the notification is actually sent. If I have repeat notifications on , I will keep getting a notice on my iPhone and Watch until I actually go into the app only to find out that she’s fine. Sometimes I’m not in a position to get out phone and open the app yet my watch buzzes every 30-45 seconds or so with a new repeat notification. Often my wife is walking next to me. Either I should be able to stop notifications from my wrist, the time between notifications needs to be longer or customizable, or both. and once the condition is addressed, repeat notifications should cease!

The way things are I can’t keep repeat notifications on for most alerts. Makes app next to useless.

Also, how about watch app for us companions. You have for the users. Would be great.

Cool data features but frustrating for use

The data on the app is wonderful, but you have to re-sign in all the time and no Face ID features for quicker log on. I’ve had to re-sign in 3 times in 12 hours- same with another follower for this connection.
The security settings are too extreme for accessing time sensitive access on your diabetic connection. Had the dexcom app for years- not as much detailed data but it was so much friendlier for ease of use. Potentially exploring using dexcom 7 vs guardian just to have an easier app to use.
Please, please, please have a “remember me” or “stay logged in” option to check for being able to quickly monitor your connections numbers and data.
